I got the 4B SST2 hooked up to my system.
I expected I would be switching between 4B ST and 4B SST2 a few times to nail down the differences like I have had to do with recent system tweaks I have made.
Installing the 4B SST 2 was no tweak. It was clear right from the start that this was a superior amplifier. The 4B ST never went back in.Mid range and top end is detailed beyond expectation.I hear low level detail that was previously covered up.
Instrumental harmonics are much clearer. It is not forward sounding. It is correct sounding. The bass was a little harder to evaluate. My speaker system has its own built in power amplifier.Still,I think I hear tighter control.I believe if someone does not like this amplifier they should instead take a hard look at the rest of their system. This is a honest and revealing amplifier.
Lousy recordings will still sound lousy.A cheap CD player will be revealed for what it is.Fix the source.Don't blame this amplifier.Of course a speaker system that has issues may be even worse.A good amplifier is not supposed to be a band aid to the wrongs of other equipment or recordings and a 4B SST2 is not. With everything fed to it good, the 4B SST2 is very musical .
It is definitely a keeper.
Special thanks to Corey for his help in bringing my stereo system
