Bryston 28b sst2 new review

After recently buying a pair of D'Agostino monoblocks and preamp, I was going to sell my Bryston 28B SST-2's. But I thought I'd do a week long shootout just to insure I was making the right decision. Needless to say, I have re-thought that decision and am currently enjoying the Byrston amps/D'Agostino preamp combo immensely. Both amps have slightly different strengths. But the Brystons definitely HELD THEIR OWN !!! I found the D'Agostino amps were really picky about IC's, power cords, and especially speaker cables. They were really boomy in the bass with the wrong speaker cables. The Byrstons are kinda laid back until a good loom synergy is found. The D'Agostino preamp really perked up the Bryston amps very nicely. Maybe that was error I made previously.......not finding a good preamp match. Anyway, the Brystons are no longer for sale. Plus....they will drive ANY speaker out their. So I believe they will be kept in my arsenal long term.

Awesome Jerry. I found the Dagostino preamp to be superb and enhance every amp connected to it. I still want 28's. Maybe soon. :)

Thank you for the link James!

Nice review, I always wondered how the Bryston amps sounded, and then I saw the word 'transparent' in the review, is that pretty much how the 4BSST2 sounds as well ?

IMO, yes, they are all transparent. I think all the Bryston products provide tremendous value. They give high end sound and superb build quality at lower prices than much of the competition (although still outrageously expensive using a sane yard stick).

I am under the impression that the Bryston amps are supposed to sound the same, but have more power up the line. I heard the 4BSST2 and liked it very much. I've always heard the 28BSST2's described as the smoothest on top with a hint of sweetness. Sounds like my kind of amp. Any current 28BSST2 users here willing to share an opinion?
