The skin comes out in goosebumps and tingles run up the spine. But how particular pieces of music can induce such rapturous effects in people has stumped researchers for centuries.
With the passing of time comes new technology though, and suitably equipped with modern brain scanning equipment, scientists may now have made some headway.

Thanks, Joe. That may well explain why some people are not musical, no ability, but also no emotional connection or interest. I remember that famous quote of Ulysses S. Grant, "I only know two tunes, one of them is "Yankee Doodle", the other one isn't."

Joe.......Thanks for the interesting article. It is not uncommon for me to get goosebumps across my shoulders and the back side of my neck while enjoying music. Just last night I was listening to Dave Grusin - Homage to Duke. Track 2, "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" just swept me off my feet. Clark Terry's trumpet playing had goosebumps raised on my neck.

If you haven't enjoyed this recording, Dave Grusin - Homage To Duke, you should order it. Make sure it is the recording done by GRP. It is in the top ten of all my CD's for astonishing recording quality, reference quality, really. You won't believe you are listening to a CD. I can easily compare this recording to any of the 24Bit/96KHz high-res recordings I own. It is that good. Dave Grusin, Brian Bromberg, Tom Scott, Harvey Mason, Clark Terry, George Bohanon, and others have produced a remarkable recording that pays homage to Duke Ellington's timeless music. Every track is totally captivating but I have to say Track 2, "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" knocks my socks off. This track is now a must play for anyone who visits me. It delivers incredible dynamics, amazing sound stage, perfect air around all performers, remarkable bass, and grooves so well. It will have you easing the volume up to realistic levels and loving every minute.

Dan,

Thank you so much for the recommendation. I'd sooner give up TV than my stereo. I'll check it out.
