Boulder 1160

Interesting write up Mike, at Max power it draws 25 amps ! and XLR inputs only !

That’s all Boulder. Fully balanced. XLR only.

Same way the ARC Ref 75 is. Truly balanced and only has XLR inputs.

Dedicated Power Cord is interesting. Are they partnered with anyone else or is the PC all their own?

I'm sure they are more than capable of making a suitable PC, no need to waste $$ on an outside vendor.

Mike, how does the Boulder 1160 sound compare with Block, Gryphon and others you're familiar with (?) that have similar sound characteristics?

The 1160 is a great amp. The 2160 is truly a league above and more in line with the Block. The Constellation lineup is also great. The 1160 is a little more laid back then the 2160 and a lot more laid back then say Block or Soulution.

I won’t discuss Gryphon as they made a grave mistake dumping a wonderful distributor who put the brand on the map and going with bozo the useless clown.

I got FA's email this morning and read the review. Boulder also does not like bananas and doesn't accommodate them. The reviewer says he had help carrying the amp but never did give the weight of it. A good write up. In fact, he gives a brief comparison of 1160 to CHP and Solution.

Most cable companies can manufacture an aftermarket power cable with the proper connector for Boulder amps.
Shunyata did so for my 1160 and it works very well.

Mep ,

Its not full differential , its balanced inputs , this is no different from those claiming Pure Class A power into 2 ohms marketing gibberish, now everything with an XLR’s input is now considered fully balanced ..

BTW what does the manual claim for power outputs ..? 45watts as measured ..?

The Boulder is a fully balanced differential amplifier ..!
