Very reasonably priced. I've heard their stuff at past Capital Audiofests and their rooms always sound nice.

I doubt it. But you never know I guess.

No matter how it sounds, most will discount it just because it only does redbook. No Hi Res, no DSD. Just Redbook. Plus it only has RCA out - no balanced. But if it does it great - my thought is who cares? But I do understand peoples thoughts. You definitely have to think out of the box against what 99% of people tell you sounds better.

I'll be feeding it with a Lumin U1 which will downscale all my music that is Hi Res and DSD and output to the DAC Redbook - so it will be exactly the same operationally as running a DSD DAC. We will see how it compares once I get it and it breaks in.
 
Very interesting DAC. Just went over to their website and saw this:

I'm pretty sure Lampizator was doing this two years ago.
My Amber DAC has twin chokes and tube rectification.

Not making a comparison but Gary should correct that on there.
 
If this DAC had more inputs (or maybe I can run my TV through that Starting Point Systems DAC 3 . . .) I would almost certainly have one on order. Once the one we had at our Axpona booth gets back, I'm doing some serious comparative listening. I'm technically a reseller for Gary (I like his stuff and he's close so I asked if he'd like to have a few things in a place people can visit, and if we make a sale there is a small percentage) but that's only because every time I heard this DAC it was a magical-sounding system.

At our headphone booth at Axpona we had the Lampi Atlantic along with this DAC, the SE version, and one visitor spent a good amount of time A-Bing. It was a pretty good setup for comparison, with Jriver outputting the same files to both DACs and each hooked up to a different input on an MZ2. In the end, he thought he preferred the Atlantic, he liked its "fullness", but it wasn't a clear choice, and he did say that the BP sounded cleaner.

The 16/44 thing is such a hump. I have been surprised lately by how many people ask as they sit down, before they listen to anything, what file type is playing.

Reminds me of when Alnic claimed to have the first DHT Dac, 6 months after the B7 was released!!!
 
I see you everywhere saying Lampizator beats everything and anything. I think it's safe to say Border Patrol is a very killer DAC. I didn't see Steve Guttenburg purchasing the Lampizator out of his pocket after all.

I wouldn't call the BP a Lampi killer, but I did prefer it overall to the Lampi L4. However, if I listened to mainly classical music I would have bought the Lampi, it has a slight touch of euphony with a slight upper bass emphasis that I really enjoyed. What the BP gets especially spot on for me is vocals. M

Totally agree about the vocals. Just wonderful.

Very interesting use for tube rectification.
I have read that it is possible to pull the tube and still have the DAC function.
Do you have any details on the implication of the tube in this circuit?
