I've read quite a bit of stuff related to Boenicke speakers but never was kind of thinking going there in person to see and listen to them. What pushed me over the cliff was actually the comment on FB from Lukasz F (Lampizator) that Boenicke room was among three best rooms/systems he heard in Munich so I just had to hear/see what he was raving about. Send the email to Sven and we agreed in few minutes.
First of all I need to say that he is in person fantastic guy, very kind and nice and totally in love with what he is doing - and I would say that his passion is easily seen in his product. What we had a chance to hear are models w11 and w8 while I was quite sorry that he did not have at hand w13 for which he said is really something (not that other two are not). Electronics he was using is his pre production model of integrated amp and the DAC which was still in the development stage. Source was PC with for me unknown SW.
First on the stage was w11 - impeccable product, great looking, solid wood just looks amazing. Size wise I would say relatively small. But sound wise oh boy - just the 180 degrees different to size - big, bold, dynamic, huge stage, bloomy mids and HF with nice decay. LF does not dig under ground but is till deep and precise.
Same comments are valid for w8 which just has a bit less of everything but than considering the size of the speakers which are considerably smaller than w11 sound is than gigantic in all aspects.
One big BRAVO for Sven.
We did not listen to w5 but there are reviews about them all over the web and taking into account what we heard from bigger brothers those are for sure giant killers.
Next year Sven will most probably launch statement model (we've seen parts of it) and this should be something special..
