Boenicke Audio W8

Am I right in thinking Boenicke pretty much invented the FAST speaker? Love his designs and interesting driver choices

I listened to the Boenicke W8 yesterday, and wow! What a great little speaker it is. I really want to emphasize on the small size, I've seen the pictures, the videos and even sighted them in reality before, but it's not until they actually stand in front of you that you actually realize how tiny they are. Soundwise? The complete opposite! I don't know how they do it, but they seem to break every law in physics there is, it feels impossible that the sound you are hearing is coming through these tiny little wooden cabinets. And in a way, that's just how they sound, the soundstage they produce is completely disconnected from the speakers and everything just feels right. Very impressive indeed!

I'm now very curous to hear the W11 and what can be gained between these models, and eventually, to also hear them in my own environment.

My only concern about Boenicke is that I wished they came in white, the wooden design might be the key to the sound, but the look of them just doesn't fit into the interior design in our house. This is a problem.... and also the reason why I didn't want to like them as much as I actually did.

I've been in no hurry for new speakers shopping, but the list of candidates just got very very short... :)

I find having the speakers facing directly towards my sitting position, some high notes on bad recordings are a little too direct, so I now have them crossing just in front of my sitting position and find it works really well now, with a very good stereo image.

How far do you have them from the walls, and how far are they apart from each other? Maybe you have a picture to share of your setup? :)

I agree with everything you say.
The sound that comes out is a surprise, considering their size.
But it's the sound they produce, how it (it's difficult to explain) hangs in the air and you forget there are speakers there.
I would love to have a listen to the W11 myself.
The only criticism is that I would like to feel the bass a slight bit more in my chest, but considering their size, they still produce very good bass notes. Perhaps the W11 would fix this, but then would there be too much bass for my small room?

I love the way this speaker creates the high frequencies aswell.
Everything just sounds perfect with this speaker.
It might have something to do with there being hardly any crossover components.

Where did you listen to them? At a showroom?

I have the bass drivers facing each. I've tried both ways and prefer the way I have them.
The speakers are about 25cm from the back wall and 50cm from the side.
They are about 2 metres apart.

The W11 might be too much, I have the same feeling about my room, I'm not even sure I can make proper space for the W8.

I listened to them at Perfect Sense showroom in Stockholm. It's a really good room, probably the best I've ever been to, with a lot of acoustic treatments and a lot of space and last but definitely not least, lot's of great electronics to choose from. I listened with the CH Precision C1 and A1. The W11 is there as well, just didn't have time for them. In a way I almost wanted to listen to the W8 to be able to put them aside and move on, I kind of expected I would like them though, but now I cannot stop thinking about them.

Have you tried moving them out from the walls, like a meter or more, even if only temporary? This is not practical for most (me included), but according to some reviews this is where real magic happens, and maybe it can be worth moving them back and forth every now and then.

I just don't have the space to move them.
If I move them away from the wall, they will be too close to the listening position.

Concerning more bass I want: I'm expecting too much from these speakers, for their size.
More bass will mean a bigger speaker.
I'll stick with these for a few years :)

Another way of explaining the way the W8 produce sound: With other speakers sound seems to be trapped inside the speaker, but with W8 you don't get that.
