Blue Note Reissues

Good stuff. I used to subscribe to their limited, individually numbered, collector series years ago. I don't do vinyl no mo' but would be all over this if I was still into it.

So, what’s the difference to the Tone Poet series, except they’re not called Tone Poet? No double cover?

Yes, the ones I have don’t have the gatefold (some tone poet ones don’t either actually), cover isn’t as thick or glossy, different sleeves too but still great sound quality in 180g vinyl, perhaps a different vinyl formulation though as they are more susceptible to static (maybe the sleeves?) The bluenote site had a 30% off site wide sale recently so they were cheaper than on Amazon, and it feels better to buy direct!

interesting that 8 of the 16 titles were also in the 2020 music matters jazz SRX vinyl release ...and, there has not been any announcement by MMJ for a 2021 series. wonder if those two dots can be connected?

in any event - this is a collection of some of the best blue note titles -- at 1/3rd the price if MMJ releases.

First arrival. No gatefold. Thick vinyl. 180g at least. Paper sleeve, WTF? Dead quiet pressing. Will assess vs MusicMatters and report back.

This is one master tape that has surely stood the test of time. From multiple issues over the years, to music matters to tape project to this version and many in between, these tapes must be indestructible.

My takeaway is this: if you don’t own the Music Matters version or better yet, the Music Matters SRX version, get this version. It’s $22 with free delivery if you have Prime. Replace the crummy paper sleeve with a nice MOFI plastic sleeve which you can buy in bulk and enjoy. You give up little if anything at all to the MMJ/SRX versions. Yes, no gatefold, but the vinyl is of equal quality, the pressing is dead quiet and sonically, the two are almost indistinguishable.

Thanks for the feedback. Lee Morgan also appeared with many other Jazz greats at the time so unless looking specifically at his albums, he is on other labels but Blue Note holds the bulk of his work.

Now comparing the digital versions I have. The 2010 Analog Productions remaster (SACD ripped to DSD) is outstanding.
