Hi Guys,

As an avid tweaker of sort, I was looking into adding some of the newer WBT 0703 NextGen CU binding post as shown here:

WBT 0703Cu Nextgen Pole Terminal, Binding Post

onto my Integrated, but came across what strikes me as something quite unique ( and quite possibly a much cheaper option ) enough for me to want to sort them out with someone's help here of course, they is a clearer photo of said binding post in the photos below the main one, and listed as photo number 4:

Can anyone here tell me which brand and model number as well as which country I might be able to source a set of these?.

Thanks in advance,

i cant tell you about either. but i can tell you the guy from cary who i spoke to about the upgrades for my amps is a big wbt fan and told me the upgrade which was $90 a pair was a great option and would improve the sound of my amps.
sorry i couldnt be of more help.

Hi Steve,

I respect the fact that you chimed in, and in hindsight, it would appear that going with the WBTs would in fact be a great option. Why caught me off guard was spotting a rear photo shot of the $22.5000 Triode Corp TRX-M845 845 Mono-Blocks with what I later researched and found out were merely $72.00 per quad of CMC 878S - M Binding Post:

4pcs CMC 878M SE Gold Plated Heavy Duty Speaker Amp Binding Post Short Thread | eBay

and seeming they always get special mention as one of the best at shows in tandem with Acoustic Zen Speakers, I merely began to wonder, if these post were good enough to be put onto these!, then why not then look at some of the cheaper options as a possibility!. I've used Edison Price and Cardas Audio CU Post in the past with great results, but they were both a mess to clean, so I was just trying to find something that was insulated, yet different then the norm.

Thanks again,

If upgrading, it's hard to go wrong with copper based, gold plated posts from WBT, Cardas, or Vampire.

Not nearly as pretty, but Speakon connectors are also excellent.

Klaus at Odyssey Audio, the Symphonic Line distributor, told me that he liked the Nextgen RCA's but not the speaker binding posts. He said he tried them and didn't find them to be any better than the model they replaced which are cheaper. When I asked about them when I ordered my Kismet amp he said that if I wanted to pay for them then that was fine, but he wouldn't. As I have known Klaus for over 15 years, I trust his judgment and ears.

Hi Kt77,

We use the 0703's on all our amps. They grip really well on spades, the gold plating lasts and the terminal (inside of amp) makes for easy wire connections.

They don't sound any better than any other connector but cheap connectors the plating flakes off, the core material makes it harder to solder a wire to it (usually aluminum, copper is much better) and usually has poor size tolerances.

Mike's Career 550 (Job 225) uses the 0703's. The Job 225 comes with Chinese binding posts that cost a few bucks.

Best,
Matt

Hi Face,

Thanks for chiming in, as this is becoming more and more interesting with each new post, it seems that I've to stick with one of the better copper based brands then.

And I recall the Neutrik Speakon Connectors from an older pair of LS 3/5As I once owned, great call on that one as well.

Thanks again.

Hi Jack,

As I once worked at a shop that sold the Symphonic Line Separates, as well as their tasteful Integrated's along with the Densen electronics from Denmark as our primary lines ( circa 1993/97 ) so I'm very familiar with the Odyssey components as well, and as you've pointed out Klaus is indeed a very knowledgeable and honest source on these sorts of things, so I shall indeed proceed with a greater sense of caution then.

This was my second venture at working at a stereo store since the early 80s, until 1992, but I've always paid attention to such little details as what was actually used on the rear of most components, and noticed as far back as then, most of them seemed as if they costed all of 50 cents per item.

But, I'll pull of some photos and have a look at the binding post he uses on his wares, and I'm all over the WBT 2010CU - MS NextGen, and have them laying in the drawer until I decide on which binding post to add?, so thanks for sharing that bit of insight. I do appreciate it, more then you'll ever know.

Hello Matt,

Now we're talking about someone whom actually have used/heard said 0703s, that can in fact add more questions to my options, yet I respect your honesty, and shall certainly be investigating other options then, could you please do me a favor?, and see which brands of post Mike uses with his 225s?, as I'm becoming more and more curious about what I see as becoming the norm, with a lot of factories now using Chinese based RCA and Binding Post, when it seemed about 15 years ago, everyone was talking about how horrible any of their products were.

But truth be told, the Asians catch on very quickly, and seem to have a lot more to offer these days, then some might've ever imagined, and after all.........., what's not made in Asian countries these days, and I mean that in a good way!, cloned or not, some of their tube electronics were in fact what caused many American designers during the mid 90s, to rethink their position in the marketplace - Imports to my mind, have always equaled value of performance, but of late, we are starting to show greater attention to detail, as well as musicality as a result of said awakening, but then as always.........., I'm getting ahead of myself, so let me slow down.

Matt, thanks for sharing your insight into my options as well, it seems it's not going to be as easy as I had initially thought.

Cheers,
