So I recently acquired a Bryston BDA-3 DAC. My Aurender N100H was previously connected to either the DAC in my Oppo 205 or the DAC in my c2500 preamp. Needless to say the BDA-3 smokes both of them.

Now I want to use the Bryston BDA-3 DAC with my Oppo 205. It appears I have 2 choices. Either the HDMI audio only output of the Oppo 205 to the HDMI input of the Bryston BDA-3 or using the Coaxial Digital Audio Output to the S/PDIF1 input.

Which is preffered?

Thanks

Hello,

I would say HDMI, as it supports higher sample rates and is a much more modern digital output. Of course, implementation of HDMI and S/PDIF in both the OPPO and Bryston could affect things. ;)

Go with HDMI. I had that combo going with the OPPO 105 for a while. Works great.

Thanks guys! I'll go with the HDMI.

Also, hdmi is the only way to stream dsd from super audio cd's.
The 205 has the special engineering to lower jitter. Oppo makes a pretty big deal about it in the info about the player.
Eventually, I look forward to getting a Bryston dac to see how it changes or improves the sound. As it is I think the 205 sounds great.
Let us know what you think when you try it!

Hi Christian,

I have about 10 hours on the Bryston BDA-3. My Aurender N100H is hooked up to it with the Wireworld Platinum USB cable. Before that I was using the Oppo UDP 205 DAC. The BDA-3 is clearly leaps and bounds over the already impressive Oppo.

It was a well worth purchase. If funds permit do not hesitate.
