Suspected some issues with my current preamp and purchased Victors latest solid state preamp creation the VK-85. I have experience with his older tube preamps but I am over tubes in my main system. The VK-85 has met and exceeded any and all expectations. You email BAT and you’re likely to correspond with Victor himself. Nice guy!

I'd like to hear some BAT. I've heard they have been at Axpona but I somehow miss them. I'd think with them being owned or somehow affiliated with Music Direct they'd be better represented at Axpona.

I did not know they were owned by Music Direct. That is interesting. I do know Victor Khomenko the founder is still active with the company.
The VK-85 has surpassed my previous preamp in sound quality.

Is the previous "preamp" the ARC Ref 5SE?

What was the "hate" part about?
Mark I think "hate" maybe a too strong of a word, lets change it to "frustration". Now to put in context when I had the REF 5SE my room and system were not even close to the level it is today.
The REF5 would sound glorious for three listening sessions and then for some reason, to me, it was unlistenable. Maybe my ADHD tendency to try every 6H30 tube produced had something to do with it.
Anybody who has a REF5 SE who needs an amazing NOS Western Electric 6550 tube for the PS let me know. 🥳🤩😍

I only used 6H30 tubes from ARC and never had any issues with the Ref 5SE. I only sold it to you because I wanted the Ref 6 which I still have. The Ref 6 and Ref 6SE also use the 6550 in the power supply.
