About a mile away from me is a little hidden gem called RHB Soundezign, which is a High End Mod company and repair for Tube gear. Bob brought my Counterpoint back to life when I got it for a reasonable price. While I was there, I got to see all the cool custom mods he was doing on some already pricey brand new gear. (aside from the case, similar to the Job upgrade done by Matt)

Anyhow, I just got an email announcing that they started a new company called Backert Labs and have produced a killer Tube Pre- Amp priced at $7500.

Hello and we hope this season is finding you well.

We wanted to let you know that Gary and I have formed a new company called Backert Labs, which designs and manufactures stereo preamplifiers. Our first model, the Rhythm 1.1, is a tubed single-ended linestage preamplifier. It incorporates our latest technology, including our all-Teflon capacitor power supply, and comes in silver or black. We plan to release a balanced version in the near future. Details are found in our press release.

We will be showing the Rhythm 1.1 at the Capital Audiofest in Silver Spring, MD (just north of Washington D.C.), Friday July 25 – Sunday July 27, in Room 712. We would welcome the chance to say hello if you are attending.

Of course, our modding business continues as well.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 215-355-0529.

Bump for any members who missed this and looking for anyone who has heard it.

I had an opportunity to review Bob's piece but was too bogged down in other reviews. Bob also services Allnic gear, at least on the East Coast.

I assume you'll see a review on PFO shortly though.

I had Bob and Gary Backert modify a BAT VK-75SE that I owned several years ago, the results were incredible. Bob's Dynamic linearity circuit is reall stunning. I wish I could afford his preamp!!

These guys were on my radar, when I was heavily into C-J gear...and thinking about mods.

Good to know they work on other kit; I've been on the lookout, for someone who can mod ARC.

He wanted to put his gold circuitry and cap upgrades into my VAC pre amp back when he revived my Counterpoint, but it was above my budget and I worried about resale, even if it did sound better than stock. Their work is as good looking as it is sounding.

Yeah Bri, it doesn't do much for resale value, but then again, most mods kill you on resale. Only plan the mod if you plan to keep the gear for a few years at least.

Cheers,
John
