An early Christmas present to myself, just upgraded my Auralic Vega DAC to the new Vega G2 Series. Thanks to my friendly dealer Audio By Mark Jones, who managed to score 2 new units, while much of the world has to wait until January 2018 for the factory to catch up with demands.

Upon opening the box, the build quality is immediately evident in the beautiful finish. The unity chassis is machined from a single billet of aluminium, which takes 6 hours to machine a single unit. A pair of white gloves is supplied so you do not get fingerprints on the silken finish. The retina resolution display is gorgeous with the jewel-like machine case. It took less than 5 minutes for the Auralic Lightning DS control App to load in my 320,000 songs library and I was streaming music from my network NAS in 15 minutes.

The original Vega DAC was universally praised for its transparent dynamic sound. Auralic has managed to retain all the strengths of the original Vega and elevated them by several notches. The Vega G2 DAC is not just an update of the original Vega, it is a complete re-design from the ground up by the team at Auralic, with over 2 years of R&D invested. This is one seriously high-end DAC, packing all the latest digital technologies and ESS DAC chip customized for Auralic. Transparency, details, explosive dynamics, huge soundstage, rich timbral purity, natural instrument decays and all the characters an audiophile looks for in a high-end DAC are all here. As an audiophile, the best audio components are those that make me sit up and take notice whenever a musical passage is presented with the purity and absolute resolution of the original instruments. This DAC does it for me.

I have heard several high-end DACs costing well over 5 figures in the past, this Vega G2 can keep up with the best of them. I believe that this Auralic Vega G2 is punching well above its own weight. I have been listening to this DAC for 3 days and I cannot stop listening to it and with a wide grin on my face, that’s probably the best compliment I can give to this phenomenal DAC. Well done Auralic.

Hey Louis , So good to see you here. I would love to hear the Auralic Vega G2 ! I love the brand name too ;)

Is it MQA compatible too ?

Hi Paul, the Vega G2 DAC is not MQA certified, but Auralic has its own algorithm to decode native MQA content. When I play an MQA file from Tidal, the DAC shows 24/48 and optionally can decode 2x 4X and 8X sampling rate. Sounds great. You are welcomed to come over anytime, how about boxing week?

Paul

The Auralic streamers will give you the full unfold to 24/192 using their algorithm all the way down to the $500 Mini. I am kind of surprised that the Vega G2 doesn't allow it as the "MQA" type processing is done ahead of the DAC chip. You will have to listen to both versions to see if you hear a difference. I don't but Kuoppis says he does so who knows what you will hear. If Mark has both options I guess you can listen at his shop.

Hi Jack, Have you heard the PS Audio Direct Stream DAC with Red Cloud update ? I heard they are pretty good sounding, Would love to compare with Vega G2

Interesting. Thanks so much for invite. I will contact you via FB ? :) Meantime enjoy the new toy

Aries G2 network player , Sirius G2 upsampler ($TBD), and Leo G2 clock ($TBD)

Hmmm,....whats all these ???

Paul

Yes I own a DS DAC with the Bridge II and it is first rate. I also have the Auralic Aries in the same system via AES/EBU so I can compare both variations of the "MQA" stream and I really don't hear a difference though others claim they do. As to your question about the various G2 components it seems that it is their take on the "DCS stack" at less than a third of the price. I think Mike saw the prototypes in Munich.

I have the original Auralic ARIES. I am very happy with it, but I want to upgrade to ARIES G2 + VEGA V2.

My question, is : what is the purpose of the SIRIUS G2 upsampler ? who need this ? What is the sonic benefice if it ?
I wonder if the the LEO G2 Clock will not bring more sonic advantage than the SIRIUS G2 upsampler ?

Are there already some review of the VEGA V2 against TOL DACs like NAGRA, Brinkman, .....

thanks
