Audio Myths

truth be told there are just as many goofy 'audio fools' as their Ethan Winer types. Objective vs. Subjective reasoning...... pick your poison !

Mike-If you want a critical review of every component you sell, start sending them to Ethan. He will bash everything you sell unless you are selling old Pioneer receivers like he has.

Oh I know. He's hilarious. Cable conversations are enough for a life time with him.

Base of myths is subjective border "good/bad" of objective parameters. Like ringing, harmonics, noise, etc.

Also ear test (including double blind test) is not home task. It is complex research, that demands serious material base and careful methodics.

I have to laugh every time I ready articles like this ... 2 years ago I upgrades all my interconnects in my system to Shunyata Anaconda from a less expensive cable. While my wife almost never enters my audio room the very next time she did she sat down and was determined to find out what I had changed even though all the components were the same! She is NOT an audiophile at all or even really care ... she just mentioned that the system now sounded like real music and not a stereo system. Proof enough for me that what I heard was real because she described the exact same thing I had heard. At the end of the day I was busted on the stealth upgrade ... but in the end we both just laughed and enjoyed some music and some wine!

Paul McGowan did explain his methodology for his double blind test and Students of Nyquist, will not let go, have to admit , I haven't experienced much outside of that box, 24 bit has less noise for sure , everything else is up in the air ...

And

Yes practically everything makes a difference , but is it better ..........

24 bit guarantee nothing as itself. There are many mutually bound variables: band signal, sample rate, noise, bit-depth, analog and digital filters.
All these things give result in complex. Nyquist for audible 20 kHz is one of reference points, but it is not applicable rule for achieving of result.

I many times heard about Nyquist theorem without reference certain case to limitations of this theorem (infinite signal, that is not related to musical one, as example).

And real analog filters (about 48 dB per octave) don't allow to use Nyquist theorem (44 kHz sample rate here) for achieving of features, that we expect for hi-fi.

Correct multiple variables when going from system to system, but Regardless of sample rate the higher bit rate (24 or higher ) is always quieter than 16bit. On Glass masters its most noticeable. If you do your own recordings and use them for your reference ( and you should) you will easily hear this phenomena .

Expanding band (upsampling) cause of dereasing noise. Because noise is distributed over wider band.

I could have saved a lot of money if I had just kept my original sound system and ignored all the rest of that stuff. .

I hear you Dan, I went back to my roots and since I bought this the urge to upgrade has completely disappeared! And no I´m not taking the Mickey, that 1 Point arm blows the Kuzma 4 Point out of the water.
