I was just thinking about the longevity of lp's the other day while I was listening to a 50 year old jazz album. It sounded great, better than any of my digital music. The article mentions the degradation of digital files on hard drives but what about the physical cd's? I have some that are about 30 years old and they sound okay with no apparent loss of fidelity. I have read about them oxidizing over time (laser rot) but I have never found one yet in my 500 cd collection or 300 laser disc collection either.
I listen to my ripped flac files stored on a 2 TB hd using my Bryston BDP-2 for convenience but I am keeping the original cd's as back-ups as well.
