Curious if anyone has been able to dermine if the new appletv4 (apple tv 4) can pass 24/96 or 24/192? The current one is limited to 16/48. Thanks!

Moot point, as it has no audio out. Only HDMI.
This new unit is definitely a "one step forwards, two steps back" kind of thing...

Oh wow; that is dumb (well...probably not for Apple's sake). I was planning on getting one, for a little 3-channel system I have; and if I liked it (didn't care for the original)...maybe the Bedroom, to replace my WDTV Live.

But I would like it to do double-duty, for audio-out; like to the NuPrime IDA-8 in the Bedroom, etc.

I'm skipping it. I have been using mine mostly for Internet radio and an occasional movie. But, with Tidal, I have not used the Apple TV for music in a while.

Wow, that really is dumb, or sinister. I use one of mine primariliy for the Airplay function to stream music from my laptop. AppleTV4 would be largely useless to me.

I still have my Apple TV3 connected for the rare occasion that someone in my family or a guest wants to stream a movie clip or music to the television. My Samsung UHD television is streaming all formats in a more comfortable way than the Apple TV. There is no need for it any longer IMO.

It seems recently Apple can't do anything 100%. They take two steps forwards, and three back. The new AppleTV platform is excellent, where you can run apps and stuff. That would make it a perfect "media player". BUT, they go ahead and remove all kinds of decent audio outputs. WTF...
