Apple releases iOS 11.1

Apple has released the first public test version of an 11.1 update to its iOS software amid growing complaints from users over the software. It comes just two weeks after the software was released - and a week after Apple was forced to issue an 'emergency' 11.0.1 update to deal with major issues. However, it appears many users are still suffering problems ranging from app crashes to reboots, causing Apple to issue a 'beta' update of an 11.1 version of the controversial software.

Since the new operating system first rolled out, unhappy users have made one thing clear – iOS 11 is a battery life killer. But, that isn’t the only problem. Others have reported that the system is generally glitchy, giving rise to problems with Apple Pay, TouchID, and iMessage. Some users have also reported a bug where their phone network is shown in Chinese characters - even if it's a UK or US network.

In response to the complaints, Apple put out a quick fix, issuing iOS 11.0.1 .
Apple users who have updated their devices to use iOS 11 have primarily noticed problems with their battery life and app performance. Some users claim that their phones 'just get stuck on apps' and that a hard reset is the only way to resolve the issue.

According to numerous posters on social media site Reddit, users are experiencing a massive drop in performance since upgrading to the latest operating system. Many are complaining that apps are crashing when they try to open them, or are failing to load altogether.

Dan, as an apple user for 12 years now, I really have had enough of their scheming ways, or at least that's what it looks like at times. I'm going back to windows & have just bought a windows desktop as my base.
 
There were problems with their earler versions (8, 9 10) too. I'm just going to wait till the issues are ironed out, probably in the next 2-3 months.
 
I'll wait till Apple gets all of their crap fixed. Apple is getting about as bad as Windows with new release bugs. There seems to be no real harden test anymore. Write and release it and let the public test it.

It’s better to have both. Windows has at least as many problems, typically they aren’t as publicized (more people care about their phones than their computers today).

I can relate, but, I am also angry at the never ending premium to belong to the apple fraternity.
 
No issues on either of my iPads or my phone with the new release. I can't comment on the battery issue since I plug my phone in to charge when I go to sleep at night and don't know how long it would last. All of my aps seem to be working just fine. :dunno:
 
I have had no problems at all, so i seem to be a "special" one :)

Running Iphone 6S and Ipad Pro 10.5 as well as Imac, running smoothly no issues at all.
 
There is no significant "premium" to Apple ownership. Comparing Apple to comparable Windows or Android hardware typically shows a cost difference of ~10%, which is more than offset (in most people's opinions) by the much better multi-device integration and connectivity in the "Apple Universe". If you don't have Apple tablets and phones in addition to iMac, and/or family and friends using iPhones, then that small price difference may be more significant.

To be clear, I spend more time on my PC than my iMacs, but if I had to do without, I could always run Windows on my iMacs.
 
Rob, I beg to differ but perhaps it's a geographical thing in Australia. I have just bought a PC, the equivalent for speed & performance in apple would of set me back at least another $1000, probably a lot more. Then there is the iphone etc that we must pay more for, for the new technology when it should be getting cheaper. I personally think apple gouges the market a touch more than Microsoft.

Mt stock portfolio appreciates (pun intended) Apple pricing and market savvy.
 
I don’t think Microsoft has anything to do with PC pricing. Perhaps there is a price premium for iMacs overseas, I don’t know, but in the US it’s hard to get a desktop PC from the major vendors (Dell or HP) comparable to most iMacs, one has to have it custom assembled, and then it doesn’t have sleek compactness of an iMac, and as I said usually ends up costing only about 10% less. Given that Apple sells 1-2 yr old computers at 10-20 % less than new, it ends up a wash. But I doubt it works that way in all countries. And with the newest laptops Apple may have blown it a bit in that segment.
