Does anyone know or even guess how many of their favorite components, speakers or cables an audio company, not a dealer, sells per year?

I’m curious as you hear high end audio is dying but the recent Axpona show seems to say otherwise.

For example:

- How many amps does D’Agostino sell each year?
- How many speakers does Wilson sell each year?
- How many cables does Nordost sell per year?

It’s really hard to say. I know that when I submitted my order in January for a VAC Statement Phonostage, Kevin said there were 22 ahead of mine and I was looking at 8-10 months. 22, $85,000 pieces. Jesus! I’ll keep bringing donuts and coffee to speed them up! Sugar + caffeine.

When I visit the factory and see the incredible hard working people and dedicated professionals, beside them are mounds of equipment leaving for Russia, China, Europe, etc and of course, lots of US orders on a weekly basis.

Those proclaiming high end audio is dying are the same old curmudgeons that complain about $3000 speakers or power cables or USB cables. The ones who say to me “but when I bought my Luxman amp in 1985, it was only $700, why does it cost so much more today?” Yes, and cars, houses, etc have all stayed the same for the past 35 years.

Headphones and the vinyl revival have given a much needed boost to the industry no doubt. But a stereo system is something you can enjoy all day, everyday and every night - unlike a boat for example. It’s something that invokes such an emotional response and provide happiness for hours. A stereo system is something that can provide a disconnected solitude for hours in an overly connected world.

I bet on pure speculation McIntosh makes 400 pieces a month, whereas Wilson does half that and D’Agostino half that.
