The company recently posted some waveforms showing the dynamic range of certain tracks. The first compared Bill Withers Ain't No Sunshine to a newer Ed Sheeran track. The Sheeran showed a range of 4dB where the Withers recorded in 1971 showed a range of 13dB. After some feedback today James posted Bob Seger's Traveling man, an older, possibly original to a "remaster", showing the compression nd distortion on the remaster.

I use FB on my phone and not technically able to share these photos.

I got into a discussion with a supposed recording engineer where he defended the use of compression in Pop music as artistic and beneficial even claiming it sounds better. So you know where that went, nowhere productive.

There’s a few so called recording engineers on Facebook with no clue about good sound. See Floyd Tooles circle of confusion. Those few profess that compression, crappy A2D converters and digital in general in the end all and be all. They are deaf and part of the problem. Compare some 1950’s and 60’s RCA Living Stereo to the compressed garbage today.
