Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have been hoping for suggestions for my VMPS RM-30 speakers.

Have been running them with pro amp (Carver Pro) with Stan Warren Superphon Rev III preamp which at the time worked well for the RM-30 which are not terribly efficient. I'm a little more grown up now and have the desire to upgrade this class D pro amp. I listen to most of my music via a mac-mini source running pure music with an eastern electric mini max DAC which I have been happy with.

With all of the recent praise for the Job electronics amps, have been considering the Job 250 mono blocks and likely the Job pre amp as well. These class AB amps should have plenty of power for my RM-30's. Also considering newer class D amps like the D-sonic M3-1500M although I do not think that I need 1500 W. I am also considering the Tortuga Audio LDR passive preamps.

Any other suggestions as far as amplifiers go for the VMPS RM-30's?

Thanks
Todd

Hi Todd - welcome to Audioshark.

At 89db/4ohm, you should be fine with the Job Monos.

I would suggest you contact John Casler over on Audiocircle.com before you invest in new amps for the VMPS. As the largest dealer and one of Brian's best friends, he probably knows as much or more than anyone about the load different models of VMPS speakers present to an amplifier and what they need in terms of current and low impedance stability. The safe bet in "affordable" monos would be Odyssey, but I would talk to John first. I own both Job and Odyssey and have questions about the ability of one of the two to take an extreme load. As to the Preamp I would recommend something more flexible if you move on like the Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE.

Thanks for the suggestion. John is the guy, I bought the speakers from. I have also been considering the Ampzilla amplifiers and although I have not heard, I believe that VMPS and SST have done a few audio shows together over the years with great reviews.

I have never heard the Ampzilla amps to see what EJ has done with them. Only heard the originals 30 years ago. Right now John is really pushing the Nuprime stuff and says it works with his personal RM-40's but I think he is using multiple subs to take some of the stress of the main amps. Also the Ampzilla are several times more expensive. All of them will probably sound fine, though some might be easier to resell if you don't care for the match up. The Job pre though well reviewed was designed to work with their amps. It's gain might not work with all amps. I've tried the Wyred with amps from .75 to 1.5 volts and it worked fine with all. Another thought would be the Modwright amps and preamps.
