Amp for Tannoy GRF's w/ MG's?

thought i'd start a new thread for this. looks like the Leak's are going to need more work so i'm on the hunt for an amp to use for the time being. was going to go with a tube amp but from reading a number of different threads folks are recommending solid state. there are certainly many SS amps available on the used market and a pal has a Nad 2200 i can use but wanted to get some opinions from the folks here. not looking to spend a lot but still would like as good as possible for $500 or under.
 
i picked up a NAD 1155 pre on da Bay the other day as i remember those were pretty good and having just dropped bucks on getting a place and refurbing the Leak's, have to keep the costs in line. from what i'm reading the 2200 is pretty good and might just be the way to go in the interim. of course i'm always interested in other options. especially now that i've given up "collecting" guitars for audio gear. GAS is a terrible thing. LOL.
