I've been experimenting with the new Amarra for Tidal standalone application: Amarra for TIDAL. I'm pleased to report that it sounds more detailed, smoother and more musical. Violins and pianos sound more relaxed and realistic on Track 1 of Billy Childs' Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro. The track features Renee Flemings' vocals and Yo-yo Ma's cello. The difference seems pretty dramatic to me.

Apparently Sonic Studio worked directly with Tidal to create this app. I don't know Amarra very well, but it apparently bypasses the computer's native audio circuit and drives the sound independently. I wonder if others have the same impression I have.

Sound quality is excellent!! I was using Tidal with Amarra SQ and that sounded very good! The integration of "Amarra for Tidal" in a single app was a major improvement on my system. Should have the iPad app very soon??

Give a listen to CSNY's So Far with the flat EQ setting. It is really incredible sound quality on the Amarra for Tidal App. I've never REALLY thought Tidal sounded as good as my CD player until now.

I didn't know the Amarra App. existed until I saw this thread. Thanks!
I purchased it today and it definitely was a nice improvement over the Tidal app. I did a comparison using the same track streaming from tidal through the Amarra App. and playing through a Moon 280D DAC using their MIND app to play the file from a NAS drive. The file on the drive was also 44.1. There was a pretty noticeable difference between the two. The file playing through the Moon had better dynamic range. Things got a bit mushed during loud passages on the Tidal stream. The quiet stuff sounded pretty close. That said, I am a big fan of Tidal and the Amarra App. makes it even better.

I need to add one caveat: the search functions and page navigation features on the Amarra for Tidal app leave something to be desired. A number to bugs persist. The search is slow and sometime just stalls out. For all my best efforts I cannot get a scroll bar to appear on this app, which wouldn't be such a problem if the down arrow key functioned to move me to lower columns of the page that are not visible on the current screen (it doesn't). I think now that the app was rushed to market. Good news is that these sorts of bugs should be easy to fix. And, most importantly, the app does SOUND better than other ways to listen to Tidal. Are others experiencing some of these bugs?

Yes, there are some bug issues. The sound quality is so good, I can live with a few bugs! Those are easy fixes!! The remote for the iPad should be out very soon!

The SQ is vastly superior with Amarra, but the search engine on the app frustrates me to no end. Often I search on the conventional web-based version first and then try to work around to navigate to the music I want on the app. So I guess I'd say there are more than a few bugs. It feels rushed to market. But yes, these problems are easy to fix and should be temporary.

Heads up to anyone (like me) using Amarra for Tidal. I just checked and you can now download the Amarra for Tidal remote for iOS from the App Store. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but the video that Sonic Studio posted looks good! I’ll try it tomorrow. It’s way way past my bedtime.

Below are all the links you need.

Thanks for the heads up - I was an Amarra user a few years back, but had no idea they had a Tidal version now. Just downloaded it & so far, so impressed!
