I have recently purchased a pair of Newform Research R645 speakers with the upgraded crossovers and they had some cheap looking red hook up wires as jumpers. I am not sure if they are anti-cables or diy cables but they look like red spaghetti behind the speakers. The midrange drivers when I listen close to them sound muffled so I decided to upgrade the jumpers.
I have decided to give a set of Acoustic Zen Hologram II jumpers a try as they have received some good reviews. The Acoustic Zen cables were a little stiff to attach to the bass and ribbon crossovers but I managed to convince them to go on. The wires are 8 ga with a thick jacket. They also have WBT locking connectors which I discovered you couldn't just insert. After forcing the first bannana on I figured that couldn't be right so I googled them and found the proper way to attach them by loosening the barrel first. Luckily I didn't break anything with the first one. Initial listen reveals a little clearer and smoother midrange but I am going to have to listen more to be sure. They definitely look cleaner behind the ribbon.
Now I have to put some better bannanas on the speaker wire that goes to the amp. I have cheap ones that fit loosely and one fell out of my Jeff Rowland model 5 amp last Friday and blew a fuse.
I think I am going to try a couple of HiFi tuning fuses to see if they make a difference. They are on sale at Parts Connexion right now at 75% off. Tweak, tweak, tweak ...
