I have recently purchased a pair of Newform Research R645 speakers with the upgraded crossovers and they had some cheap looking red hook up wires as jumpers. I am not sure if they are anti-cables or diy cables but they look like red spaghetti behind the speakers. The midrange drivers when I listen close to them sound muffled so I decided to upgrade the jumpers.

I have decided to give a set of Acoustic Zen Hologram II jumpers a try as they have received some good reviews. The Acoustic Zen cables were a little stiff to attach to the bass and ribbon crossovers but I managed to convince them to go on. The wires are 8 ga with a thick jacket. They also have WBT locking connectors which I discovered you couldn't just insert. After forcing the first bannana on I figured that couldn't be right so I googled them and found the proper way to attach them by loosening the barrel first. Luckily I didn't break anything with the first one. Initial listen reveals a little clearer and smoother midrange but I am going to have to listen more to be sure. They definitely look cleaner behind the ribbon.

Now I have to put some better bannanas on the speaker wire that goes to the amp. I have cheap ones that fit loosely and one fell out of my Jeff Rowland model 5 amp last Friday and blew a fuse.

I think I am going to try a couple of HiFi tuning fuses to see if they make a difference. They are on sale at Parts Connexion right now at 75% off. Tweak, tweak, tweak ...

Acoustic Zen Absolute speaker cables and Absolute Copper interconnects here. For me they are very musical. Big fan of Acoustic Zen plus Robert Lee will change connectors and shorten cables for you if you wish.

I am running the Acoustic Zen double barrel and Matrix II IC's. A friend told me to check out the silvers sometime. I am a big fan of AZ cables.

+1 on AZ Cables. The Absolute Copper for interconnects and Double barrel/Hologram II for speaker cables are very musical and can't be a beat at their asking price.

I have the Hologram II speakers cables and the Acoustic Zen Matrix II interconnects and really like the sound, especially the midrange.

Chris, if you can, you should try the Absolute Copper - I too started with the Matrix II but the Absolute's are way way better. If you can't and if you have a source/preamp/amp combo, you need to use the Silver reference II for one leg (like, source to preamp) and matrix II for the other (preamp to amp). I got this tip from a great amount of discussions with Robert...but again every system is different.

Thanks for the advice. Robert differently has it going on with his cables. The 0.5m $ for the Absolute copper is a little bit of a stretch for my retired wallet. .

There's a guy on Audiogon who sells the cables for about 1/2 of list price (he is an authorized dealer, I checked with Robert)
