I have to admit, I did something stupid. Very stupid. Careless might be another word. I was moving some gear around for a demo and accidentally, bumped my Kronos. I hit the back of the tonearm with my hip and as I turned around I saw the arm laying on its side. After a long gasp and quite a few rapidly repeated "Oh, F***, Oh F***, Oh F***", I picked it up to see the stylus of my $16,000 ZYX Universe Premium was pointed at 9 o'clock. I straightened the stylus and tried a record. It sounded like crap. Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!

I've had tables since the 70's and never damaged a cartridge. How stupid! I was really pissed off with myself, but I had no one to blame but me. A simple piece of blue painters tape over the arm while I moved things around would have prevented this accident.

I picked up the phone and called Mehran at SORASound, the ZYX distributor. I told him the story and he assured me this wasn't the first time he had heard this happen, and it won't be the last.

I shipped off my cartridge a couple of weeks ago. Mehran immediately sent it to ZYX in Japan. The good folks at ZYX took a detailed look and suggested a complete rebuild or they would get me a new one for a special "you careless dummy you" price. I opted for the new cart fearing that the old one was truly beyond proper repair. I paid extra for expedited shipping and my new ZYX Universe Premium arrived yesterday.

To say I was nervous mounting the new one, is an understatement. I kept thinking, "oh man, what if I damage this one too? How the hell would I explain that?" Suffice it to say, I got it mounted properly and began listening. Vinyl nirvana was back!

I can't begin to tell you how great this cartridge is. It's in a completely different league (and so it should be) from anything I've had or heard in the past. My friend Rick Mak (Stereo Pal) is a cartridge whore. He has more cartridges than anyone I know. Tonearms too. He agrees with me - the ZYX Universe Premium is in another league - even compared to the other great carts.

Anyway, I wanted to give a big shoutout to the Mehran and the good folks at ZYX. They definitely made this painful experience, a little more tolerable.

Consider your self blessed it took 40 years to destroy a cartridge.....Welcome to the ooooops club. I did two in one week :( . Glad all is well now, enjoy!

This sounds like a company I want to do business with.
