Here’s a quick story.
In the mid-nineties, during the AV years, I buy a motor yacht to enjoy Puget Sound from a gentlemen and his wife that are over 40 years senior to me. The boat was so well cared for and hardly used, it was a deal.
We spent some time together that year enjoying bourbon and food then time sets in and we drift apart.
Yesterday I get a call from customer service saying there not sure what to do with this call, could I help. She says there’s a sweet sounding guy on the phone and his home freezer went down and he needs to store his product until it is repaired.
I take the call, and can hear he is an older gentlemen, he tells me the same story and I say normally this is something we don’t do as our services are designated for commercial users. I find out he is local, and because I believe in helping people, I agree.
Before hanging up, I ask him for his name and he gives me his first and last name and I paused and asked if he owned a boat and he said yes. I said Joe, it’s Ed I was the one who bought your boat.
It was so cool that we connected 20 years later, he is still sharp as a tack, now 93, still drives and we have already exchanged text messages. His wife passed in January of this year, but he believes he will live to 100, maybe more.
Work has been a grind lately and stories like this make me realize there’s more to life.
Happy Thanksgiving!
