I watched a few movies over the last week that were all pretty good.
The Purge - Interesting concept of the near future where unemployment is at 1% and crime is almost nill. The reason is because 1 night a year between 7pm and 7am, everyone can get their ya-yas out on whoever in any way they want and it's all good. The movie does have some Political and Racial undertones if you pay attention. It's the Haves against the Have Nots. The movie ends up focusing on a single family who is locked down for the night. It should keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Iceman - This one is based on a true story of a Mob Hitman in New Jersey suspected of killing over 100 people. The movie shows the struggles he had doing his job while taking care of a family life and a wife who thought he was in a high income financial job. Another good movie worth watching.
Behind the Candelabra - We atched this last night with my mother who stayed the night celebrating her 85th birthday. I am thinking this was not the best choice for a movie. We all thought it was about his life and performing, but it ends up it is based on the book one of his long time boyfriends wrote. It should have been called Behind the Bedroom Door. The acting was superb. Michael Douglas pulls this off as if he didn't have to act. Matt Damon plays the boyfriend and this is the first roll I have liked him in. He is usually a one-expression, one-emotion actor that plays the same person in almost every movie he is in, but this time it is a big stretch and he pulls it off in a likeable fashion. Overall I liked the movie and was only surprised by a few things that were covered in detail. I guess if you are anti-gay or homophobic, you may want to pass this one by but otherwise it's a good movie and Douglas should be nominated for something.
