101-F/101-D vs 300B

Not sure I would mess with my amps. But, when I think about those tube choices, I find, generally speaking, the 101D is very neutral, detail oriented with greater top end extension. The 101D creates great separation, especially in the lower mids. It's a tube ideally suited for rock or classical IMHO. The interesting thing about both the 101D and 300b is that the estimated tube life is identical (40,000 hours). The 300b isn't perfect by any means, but it nails vocals beautifully.

Well, I'm gonna build a modified 91A and was just wondering if I wanted to shell out the bucks for genuine WE 300Bs and 274Bs, use chinese or russian copies, or just substitute a pair of good, directly heated triodes and a pair of 5U4Gs. I'm also toying with the idea of using 337-As instead of the required 310-As. I've got 310s, 349s, and 337s out the wazoo. Need to use 'em.

310a's with 300b would be nice! The best new 300b's I've heard is the Elrog. Not sure if their quality control is any better though.
