    Tannoy Cabinet Care

New-ish Westminster GR owner wondering what people do to care for the cabinets on their Tannoys. When is first wax needed and how frequently? Does anyone use something different than the Tannoy included wax?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Art, I'm guessing they were waxed at the factory, so, I wouldn't go anywhere near it with anything but the wax. Lots of good stuff out there but if there is something in the product that is bad, you wont know until it is way too late

Damn, that reminds me that I could stand do my Canterbury again, but I'm out of the included wax. I'll be asking my dealer about replacement, though of course there may be better options listed in this thread -- Tannoy was very sluggish the last time I needed a part (replacement tweeter for my prior Kensington SE).

The muslin cloth is fine for generally applying and initially spreading the goop, but an old soft white t-shirt is fantastic for buffing to a beautiful smooth finish. You room will smell of it for a couple days, which I think is awesome. They'll also have a nice "glow" to their finish. I thought the new GR series had a lacquered finish though, so I'm not sure what the ideal is there. The SE are nice and matte and like to drink wax.

I first did mine 6 months in, and then again a year later. They definitely seemed a little "dry" before that 1st application; they may dry out somewhat in the process between manufacture and getting to you -- so it wouldn't be unwise to do the 1st application sooner if that's the case. I made the mistake of using too little the first application (1/2 a canister for both speakers). They did say "use sparingly". But not that sparingly.

The Canterbury is of a size that makes this a nice little exercise; your Westminster will be far more daunting.
