Re: About to pull the trigger on Tannoy
i was reading about the tannoys and it said a max amp power of 275w. think that was the cantebury model. the 601's are 600w!! lol. and obviously not the amps for that speaker. so the way i see it paul is either you need to get different amps for those speakers, or different speakers for those amps. lmao!!!!!!
have you tried the unison research integrated with those tannoys yet?? im sure the 275's would run nicely , and the unison. and a slew of other amps, but id suggest trying some low watt tubes. i was hoping you would at least find a pair of 300b's to test with them.
or if more power is your thing, a pair of the cary 211's that mike and jock run would be awesome as well. personally id try the 50w a-6000 allnics first.lmao!!!! but thats just me!!!
wow gives you alot to think about, best of luck with the choices. i think in your case testing more amps before you test more speakers is a definite.Steve

Are you saying Steve, I should have ordered the 6000's rather than the DHT's.
Maybe 6000's on the Cants and DHT's on the Wests, there you go.

Re: About to pull the trigger on Tannoy
i cant say either because i have not heard them yet, but the a6000 @50w would be better i think with the speakers that range in the mid-low 90's in sensitivity, and the 10w a5000 would be better for the real efficient 100+ db speakers. but that is just my thoughts and not fact. i think the a5000 you are getting might be the best sounding of all of them.at least that is the "water cooler talk" on them. im presently thinking on a pair of speakers that are 101db and run at 16 ohms and can run with any amp. if i did that i would want to hear the a5000's more than the a6000's. but if i kept my present speakers(90db) which run 15w pretty darn good, id like to try the 50w 6000's.lmao!!!! its a confusing mess with some of these companies, and to just hear the right speaker with the right amp is hard to do.
plus the a6000's would cost me near $5k in sophia royal princess tubes!! cause they take 4 pairs to run @50w. yikes!!!! and after using their lower priced princess mesh plates, i would never want to run a 300b amp without sophias in it again.
and the 6000's excite me because they can run more of a wide range of speaker.
so basically i have no idea which is better im just guessing and listing the pros and cons of each .lmao!!!! one thing i know is i will buy some allnic amp eventually whether its the t1500 integrated and keep my present monos, or step up to the 5000 or 6000 i dont know yet. ive also been looking and liking the raven spirit ref 300b monos as well.Steve

I was thinking out loud; people from the outside are coming here @ the Shark to read some and they stumble into threads like this one for example.
1. Some react as saying to themselves; cool, this is a nice bunch of people from a very cordial and fun audio website.
2. Others; mmm, did I came to the right place to get serious answers to my serious questions... Usually that category of people don't have time to read deeper and further.
3. What else; other type of reactions?

Re: About to pull the trigger on Tannoy
Paul, I've been using A23 for a few years now. As far as I know they are still hand made using two different profiles of copper cable. I don't see why they couldn't be used for any type of amp but they were developed specifically for Shindo gear. They have a very natural sound to them and allow all the different textures of the music through. They seem very balanced to me as well. This may sound vain, but the thing I love the most about them is the way they look. The cloth sheathing is reminiscent of days past. They are very unique.
Here's a snippet from the importer:
Keith Aschenbrenner began experiments in the early 90's to find a suitable speaker cable to work with his then new line of electronics Shindo Laboratory. Mr. Aschenbrenner spent months with dozens of raw sample cables. After many, many late nights of twisting together various cables, trying many different configurations, cable contents, gauges etc. he came across an inherently musical configuration. 15 years later its still the most musically, harmonically and texturally rich cable we have found at any price. Inexpensive, handmade and awesome.Doug
