I've heard this unit in two different systems now. It's a stellar amplifier and even more beautiful in person.

MIke.......Such a fine looking integrated amplifier. The new meters really add flair to the front panel. Also of special interest, the T+A HP 3100 HV supports a tone and loudness compensation option, as well as MC and MM phone stage options. This is a gorgeous integrated amplifier. The rear panel is outfitted beautifully, too.

I just received a T+A PA 3100 HV and a PDP 3000 HV SACD player and the combo sounds superb playing on my Amati Tradition speakers. A match for anything I have heard elsewhere, shops and high end shows. Highly recommended.

Hi soastrup, I'm wondering why you chose the PDP3000HV over the MP3100HV? Thanks.

    Hello Penthouse-D,

    Thanks for responding.

I did consider the MP3100HV but I found out, via the T+A Tech guys, that the MP does not accept DSD files via its LAN port (only PCM files). This meant that I would have to play my DSD files via the USB port from either a laptop or another media player. I dont want to use a Laptop and as there is little point in running a media player into a media player I ended up with an Aurender A10 feeding the PDP via the USB port. My understanding is that there will be a future upgrade to the MP so that DSD files may be accepted on the LAN port. It also appealed to me that the PDP uses 2 off individual DACs for DSD and PCM.

As I mentioned, if you are in the market for an amp/cd in the Gryphon/MAS/Luxman ++ high end range for mid size rooms the T+A systems are well worth considering.

No. In the unlikely even I move to a much larger space and buy inefficient speakers, I'm quite pleased as is.

Great review, thanks for sharing. I liked the comment saying that buying this would not be downsizing to small and that many owners of separates would instead be upsizing - which is what I did myself.

    Re: T+a pa3100hv

I spent about 6 hours listening to my T+A setup today. Primarily CDs that I've been listening to for years. After some burn-in challenges, I can confidently say, this is the most satisfying gear I've owned. Wonderful in every way. I heard things on tracks that I've never heard before. I wonder if the brand is getting acceptance here in the states? Certainly not a commercialized brand. Mike, how is the line selling? Anyone on the fence owes this equipment an audition....

Hello, I'm listening to mine now. The only person that's not happy, is my dealer. I'm thrilled and will not be changing. If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I've owned McIntosh, Pass, Spectral, Rogers High Fidelity, and Vitus. I think the PA3100HV is the best of the bunch. Love the MP3100HV also.

T+A is great equipment. I am sure that the PA3100HV would be amazing judging from the lower models that I own. The DAC is simply fantastic, the small T+A amp is a great little amplifier. From what I can see T+A is built as good as any equipment out there!

I have both in the store. The Diablo 300 has that big HUGE soundstage, tremendous bass and seamlessly limitless power on tap. The PA3100HV is breathtakingly beautiful in design, it has a very “tube like” sound. Buttery smooth on top.

They are, to me, the two best solid state integrated’s I’ve ever had. Just fabulous. Really, both are in a league on their own.

No I haven't. I believe the module is $2,000+. Don't see the need for it at this point.

    Mike,

How does T+A integrated compare to the separates (amp + pre)?

    Thanks!

I haven’t had them in my system, only heard them at shows.

I cannot answer for sure but as the specs are the same I would believe the difference is marginal. The main advantage with separates is that you can, funds permitting off course, run the 2 off power sections in mono and get 60W in pure class A as opposed to the 30W class A in the Integrated.

    Penthouse-D,
The information regarding the Class A output is not available anywhere on the T+A site so I asked the T+A guy at the Warsaw show a few weeks ago. He said it was somewhere between 30 and 40 Watts. In my system it probably never leaves class A.

I use cables from QED and Audioquest.

Same here. 30-40 watts max. I would think if the amp is truly class a- a/b, they would promote it. Maybe Mike has additional information. Thanks again.

I was told the HV3000 plays up to 30W in class A, when I auditioned it a couple years back.

As far as I know, the power sections in the HV3000/ HV3100 are pretty much the same. Most of the work and changes in the HV3100 went into the pre section and power management, it says on T+A webpages.

Just out of curiosity, I emailed T+A about class A power of the PA3100HV. They responded very quickly stating the amp is up to 30 watts in class A. They mentioned heat would be an issue if it was more....

Think of it as adding a really good power cord and power filter to your setup.

I have heard it with the power amp and the integrated. Definitely makes sense for either one.

    Re: T+a pa3100hv

I have been listening to the little T+A AMP 8 the past couple days (giving the SET amplifier a little break). What a wonderful sounding amplifier. Separation and sound stage is fantastic. I would say a little more accurate and resolving then my SET amps, but maybe not quit the warmth. It definitely draws you in.

And then I read on T+A website:
"The overall circuit design of the AMP 8 is that of our sensational PA 3000 HV integrated amplifier, which is why the input stage and the voltage amplifier stage operate at much higher voltage potentials (HV – High Voltage concept). The input stage is a cross-coupled J-FET cascode amplifier, while the voltage amplifier stage is a single-ended Class-A Hawksford FET cascode. The output stage is responsible for current amplification, and is equipped with ThermalTrak TM high-performance audio transistors to ensure that the bias point is totally stable and free of inertia effects."

Now it makes sense. It is using the same designed amplifier that is in their integrated amps. And I think, AWESOME! Bottom line, is it sounds fantastic! From what I understand (again from T+A website) the PA 3000 HV and the PA 3100 HV use the same amplifier section. The differences are in adding the meters and I believe a redesign on the pre-amplifier section.

Thank you, that is very kind. However, for me the T+A 3100 HV is so far only a visitor to my system, as I wanted to test it a familiar environment.
