Ok, update available yesterday installed ROON and the T+A Music Navigator. Huge change in user interface and user experience. The down side is for some reason DSD files play through ROON are being converted to PCM and I can find no setting to change that?

I am at work so I can't check, however I am fairly sure there is settings in Roon that controls this. On the other hand to take full advantage of what a T+A DAC can do I suggest you consider HQPlayer. Roon actually has completely integrated HQPlayer into Roon, allowing for a HQPlayer Zone. Basically Roon is handing off the digital signal to HQPlayer which then actually becomes the playback engine while Roon is handling the control and meta data chores.

I am also not sure if HQPlayer software can be used with the Nucleus+???

The T+A players only play DSD files via the USB input, i.e. either from a laptop or a file server. I use an Aurender on my PDP 3000 HV. I am told they are looking at applying a fix that will allow DSD files from a NAS drive, not there yet though.

I was writing a long dissertation on how to setup Roon to have an external drive as a storage source along with a mapped NAS on the network as a Roon source... butt hen I realize that we do not even know what is your controling software, what machine has Roon installed on it? And with T+A to play DSD you go through the USB input.

I can say for sure it is not the DAC. I play exclusively DSD512 on my T+A DAC from my Customize computer / music server.

If you do have Roon running, what is it running on? If the usb drive is connected to whatever is playing Roon then you can setup the external drive as a storage source. Honestly, if you have a NAS on your network and it is mapped on the device that is running Roon, i.e. the computer, then the NAS could be setup as a storage source also... so really it comes down to what is your controlling source? The DAC does not have controlling software/hardware built in. It only converts the digital signal that is coming into it into analog.

I am now to understand it is the T+A DAC. I use a ROON Nucleus + and it appears T+A DSD will not work on Linux system and that's a bummer

Yea, I was just reading the the manual actually. That is quite the machine with a ton of capabilities. It does appear that DSD has to go through the USB port. DSD256 and DSD512 requires a Windows computer. This makes me think that you could probably configure the Linux machine to do DSD64 and DSD128.

    From their manual:
    "4x S/P-DIF: 2x standard coax (192 kSps /24 bit) and 2x optical TOSLink (96 kSps /24 bit)1x USB:
    Device-Mode - up to 384 kSps / 32 bit (LPCM) and DSD512*,
supports asynchronous data transfer.2x USB master-mode for USB-mass storage devices (USB stick orVFAT formatted harddisc)

    * DSD256 and DSD512 only with a Windows PC with appropriate driver installed."

I know these companies use Linux but I really don't understand why they do not offer a Windows based system. It works so much better in my view. In essence they are computers (in my view a bit more basic computers)... but there are compromises to make them plug and play I guess.

Anyone know if the DSD via USB is still an issue? Finally putting my stereo back together, just with limited space. This unit seems interesting

I am not sure what you mean by DSD via USB being an issue. DSD through USB has always worked perfect for me. You might be referring to using a Windows based machine versus open-source Linux that many dedicated server companies use. With my custom server PC I play exclusively DSD. I use HQPlayer which converts any PCM files to DSD and up samples all files (PCM or any level DSD files, 64, 128, 256, 512) up to DSD512/48... this is then sent to my DAC via an AudioQuest USB cable and plays perfect.

I have also used Roon direct playback engine versus handing off to HQPlayer. It is simply picking which zone within Roon... T+A or HQPlayer. Either way DSD works perfect.

From my understanding, and this many have changed, Linux could only do DSD through DoP. Therefore, DSD256 and DSD512 did not work since they require Native DSD capability.
