    New sub inbound

I just received noticed that the new Rythmik sub will be arriving this week. It should integrate much better with the Magnepan's! I am really looking forward to it. Really liking the Maggie's but better integrated sub should be fantastic!

    Re: New sub inbound

We have new sub.... first listen going on now. Just used recommended settings to start. A lot if controls on it. Definitely has some more defined low end and would say it matches the speed of the Maggie's better. Will have to Breakin and listen .

Much heavier... much.... (which has to show the quality of the product I would think)

My personal now 16yrs old Rythmik servos still work perfect, one of many reasons I use them in my products.
Enjoy Randy, you won't find a better performing, sounding sub.

I find that getting a sub properly "voiced" to integrate with the speakers is about a month long process of fiddling with knobs. Good luck!

    Re: New sub inbound

Using Room EQ Wizard makes the process much simpler and faster.

You can, in order: measure different locations (possibly going in reverse, placing the sub at your main listening position and moving the microphone to candidate locations), determine the appropriate PEQ filters to apply, and then measure the time difference between your main speakers and subwoofer to set any time offset if possible (or pick a different location with less time difference) or at least phase.

    Re: New sub inbound

Maybe at some point I will try one of the systems such as Room EQ Wizard, but at this point I am enjoying the sub with my Maggie's as it is. I have made a couple small adjustments from the 2-channel recommended settings. It just seems to integrate very well with the Magnepan speakers.

I am running it at about 70 now. Still getting used to all the controls on the Rythmik. Much more than any other sub that I have owned ... it does integrate very will with the Magnepan speakers.

    Re: New sub inbound

A quick hookup question about 2 Rythmik subs in my 2-channel system. I can run a single left channel to left sub and right channel to right sub, or stereo to both. The Hattor has enough outputs.

I assume left to left, right to right, but this leads me to the main question. I know I do not want to use the LFE input since this is for HT and bypass many of the controls, however should I run the single RCA cable to a single input of the L & R inputs on each sub, or should I use a "Y" connector and use both L and R inputs on each sub from the L and R single outputs of the pre-amp?

    Randy

One single channel to each sub. It really doesn't matter whether you use left or right but if you are OCD like me I run right to right and left to left. No Y-splitters needed and no exotic cable required. Just use what you have.

    Re: New sub inbound

Thanks Jack, so I use the left output from the pre to the left line input on the left sub and the right to right on right . Yes, I am certainly as OCD. I have a good solid, long, RCA cable running to L&R (two separate single cables) now so I will just move the right one over to the new sub .

I got a note from Rythmik saying the second sub should be here on Friday!

    Re: New sub inbound

That's it. Just remember to dial back the volume on both and keep the crossover frequency as low as possible. The low frequencies should be part of the overall picture and not a separate entity. Have fun with it.

    Re: New sub inbound

Randy, if you can place the subs close to each maggie, that should allow for good integration. Yes, there are plenty acoustic type, especially jazz/classical where the bass is "stereo". As Jack mentioned, the LR rca inputs don't matter, they sum to mono, but I too will go L>L, R>R.
The lower you cross the easier it will be to integrate..however, there's a caveat. You have a dipole main, so with the monopole subs, flanking the mains, you can actual generate a cardioid pattern in the bass with their combined output. This is the one exception where I would recommend increasing the LP (crossover frequency). In some rooms, this can be beneficial (being able to measure helps a bit here).
Or heck with it, just tweak the dials till you're happy ;-).

    cheers,

    AJ

    Re: New sub inbound

If I understand the question correctly, you won't necessarily get the frequency response smoothing benefits of two subwoofers if you only run a single channel to each.

For example let's say sub A has a 50Hz dip while sub B doesn't, and sub B has a 60Hz dip while sub A doesn't, and in this example let's say this cannot be addressed via PEQ.

If you run summed mono L+R to both subs, you won't have a dip at 50Hz or 60Hz during playback. At those frequencies it shouldn't be very directional anyway. But if you run individual L and R to one sub each, you will have those dips.

    Re: New sub inbound

Randy, I have the 1.6's and I cross over my subs at around 40-42Hz. I believe the 1.6's go down to 45Hz. If I run the subs higher I seem to get more of a bass hump at around 45-50Hz. YMMV

    Re: New sub inbound

The second sub arrived. I have been moving them around trying to find the best place for integration. So far I am liking having them up front inside the Maggie's (I think was where Jack suggested trying). I think this will take some playing to get comfortable with the two subs.

Moved them to rear corners. Had it adjust cabling, etc., to get them there. Not positive yet, but might be a tad better here.
