2-Channel Subwoofer Integration

please share your knowledge, this would help us more!

Although, I do know some good stuff, unfortunately, I am not smart enough to keep from getting in an argument, so it it becomes minimized with the back & forth....

I have mentioned it before, but I wrote a 7 part series on subwoofer installation for Copper e-mag.

Funny... I just got done reading your 7 part Subwoofery articles, and everything that you mentioned is pretty much the same exact thing I have been doing for years as well. From just "plopping" the mains in the room and finding the smoothest bass response for the listening position to pretty much ignoring the "rules of thirds" etc, etc.

I have always believed in getting the system to work with the room the best I can first, mainly because I lived in apartments for years and/or really couldn't afford room treatments, so getting the system to work in the room has always been the only option for me. But now, room treatments are definitely in the near future for my room, so getting the system/room right first is even more paramount. Typically leaving DSP/EQ at the door.

I was able to find several of the articles mentioned. Thank you!

Interestingly enough, it looks as if you rely on measurements first and then on your ears for fine tuning, as opposed to your ears only.

Maybe that is what you are referring to when mentioning the misconceptions/fallacies of posts in this thread.

Also keep in mind, the physical height of the subwoofer can also play a roll in the overall sound results as well, or even simple vibration isolation for that matter.

Right! ;)

...A relatively straightforward goal can be best described as never feeling the need to readjust the sub with different recordings or types of music. When you get that aspect working you are done, or at least well on the way.

Yes, sometimes these simple terms are more effective for everyone to understand.
This couldn´t be more true.
There was a time when i thought i needed a remote control to change the subwoofer volume for each song.
Now, i don´t even remember the sub is there...

To close out this section, let’s agree that we want the sub to disappear as an obvious source of the sound.

That´s it!
Simple! ;)

Many varied opinions here. My experience with subwoofers is extremely limited but I'd guess there's potentially more folklore about integrating subwoofers to a 2-ch system and acheiving a superior bass than perhaps any other aspect of a playback presentation. I'd venture there are numerous ways to acheive a superior bass with very few hard fast rules that must be abided by. My experience leads me to think a few of those rules include:

1. Speakers and subwoofers must be acoustically coupled to the associated room and this can only be done by careful speaker placement and careful subwoofer placement/tuning.

2. Since every cable has its own sonic signature, even tempo errr umm speed, the subwoofers' cabling should match that which is used elsewhere in the system. That should include all cabling.

3. Like high-end audio in general, superior bass is a journey, not a destination. IOW, no matter how impressed one may be with their results, it seems there's always opportunity for further improvements.

4. Though I can't prove it, I suspect there exists THE optimal location for every speaker /sub and room combination. However, finding even AN (not THE) optimal location can be most difficult.

Although I consider speaker placement absolutely paramount toward acheiving a superior bass, I had not moved my 1st sub from its original position since I purchased it in 2015. However, it has about 11 toggle switches and dials I was somehow able to dial that first sub in just by playing with the dials / switches. Hopefully that implies my initial placement of the first sub was sufficient enough.

Here I would consider my two subwoofers being reasonably dialed-in / tuned but not fine-tuned since purchasing a 2nd subwoofer last July.

And in the case of the 2nd subwoofer, it's a mirror of the first subwoofer. IOW, same method of coupling to the sub-flooring, same mirrored position at opposing side to I think 1/4-inch, same exact switches / dials positioning, same amount of mass loading, elevating power cables, cryo'ed cables, etc.
