Lake Tahoe, Nevada: Hitting the slopes again today.

No secret, I live in Lake Tahoe Nevada and my two favourite skiing locations in this area are both Heavenly and Alpine [sometimes, Northstar]. Bringing my iPhone and post a few photos from the mountain tops.

Re: Lake Tahoe, Nevada: Hitting the slopes again today.

I have season passes at Rose and Alpine Squaw. Over the years I probably have the most days at Alpine, just slightly ahead of Rose. Northstar is probably next most frequent. Despite that, if snow conditions were equivalent I would prefer Squaw, but its best terrain usually does not have the best snow, unfortunately.

I enjoyed the day of skiing. I took three pictures and totally forgot to take more shots when I made it to the black runs. Oh, well. Three pictures showing the journey upward. I'll be hitting the slopes everyday this month, I hope. I am obsessed with keeping my self fit! 5'10 @ 158 pounds 6.5% body fat.

Thanks for the pics. I got out several times last week after our 2 foot dumping to Snow Shoe and X-Country Ski.

    Golucid,

Please stop with the pictures already. I just returned from a week 60 miles south of Cancun and I can't get warm.

Hey, off topic but you are closest. I nominate you to check out (Roundhouse, NV):

This place is only 24 miles from my home. Shoot US50 and at their facility in under a half hour. I'm curious, now.

Re: Lake Tahoe, Nevada: Hitting the slopes again today.

I'm an avid nordic skier and Tahoe/Truckee is the place. I've skied Royal Gorge many times. It is a beautiful and expansive ski area. One of these days, I'm going to do The Great Ski Race from Tahoe to Truckee.

Not a great winter for nordic here in the Northeast. All the snow is on the coast and none in the mountains. Mt. Van Hovenberg, the Olympic nordic ski center in Lake Placid, NY, is currently closed due to lack of snow. I usually have a season pass there. The Lake Placid Loppet, a nordic ski marathon, is in two weeks and I haven't even skied there this year. I ski the Loppet every year.

Ken, you are a rock star. I am an average skier. I value my knees to much to hit too many black runs. Almost everyone one of my friends have suffered serious injuries, so that kinda spooks me a bit. I am cautious.

Today I skied and by 2:30 pm I had to stop - ugh. The snow boarders were out in full force and thankful I know how to avert collision quickly. But when the interruptions get to be too frequent, might as well call it quits and go to the lodge and have a glass of something good and potent. I'll hit the slopes tomorrow.

    This is my backyard tonight.

Thanks David! Absolutely wonderful photographs, every one one of them. You have an artist's eye. You are blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places in this country. Don't let the snow boarders get you down. There's always tomorrow to hit that powder!

    Enjoy,
    Ken

Ken, tomorrow will be busy and great, of course. Thought the temperatures are amping up and snow is melting rapidly at the lower levels. On the horizon, the week after next should be another storm - we hope. I am not ready for winter sports to end!

Oh yes....we will get back on the sticks. I modified my post as I felt like I was whining and didn't want to bring down your fun thread.

Instead of skiing we hike with our dog most days and a little snow shoeing when we get dumped on. We'll get back out skiing next year hopefully. Heck, I have a new pair of skis and bindings sitting in the spare room (unmounted) that I must try out before they're deemed "vintage" LOL.

p.s. My wife is a better skier than me. I have to chase her thru the bumps as she's always out front carving them so smooth.

The hard days for me are when I go skiing, then get home and the dogs insist on going hiking for a few miles!

Skiing injuries, like many sports injuries, are so unpredictable. One ski race coach I know tore his ACL falling over from a standstill on the flat; another expert skier crunched his medial meniscus cruising on a beginner slope. I've been an aggressive skier skiing anything lift-served and a fair amount of hike-to terrain, lots of moguls, and at age 62 the worst I've had is a broken thumb which didn't cost me even one day off skiing, knock on wood.

David.......When I ski there's a boat in front of me.

My last time on the slopes was at Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood in Oregon. Beautiful up there, too. I didn't ski, but the Hot Buttered Rums by the fire in the big hearth put a smile on my face.

We just bought some land 20 min from the ski lifts. More so for the trout quad riding and drone flying. Seeing these photos of those fabulous vistas really want me to get back into it. We've been talking about it and I think this winter down under will be our time to get back to the slopes again.

@Steve. It would be pretty slick if you shared some photos from down under. I've been to your country as well as New Zealand, loved it...decorated my xmas tree with things from NZED. And Fiji was a serious awesome adventure.
