Hockey Legend Guy Lafleur passes away

Hockey world loses another legend - Guy Lafleur passes away at 70 | bladeofsteel.com

This is sad news. He battled hard. Guy gave us so many wonderful memories. My good friend Jacques Lemaire was his line mate for all those Stanley cup victories.

    Here was Guy in action:

Guy Lefleur, Ken Dryden, the Flying Frenchmen were the class of the NHL in the 70's. (In contrast to Bobbie Clarke's Flyers). I'm not a big trading card fan, but the 71 Rookie Cards of Lefleur and Dryden have always been on my list as something to pick up, both in terms of my love of those two players, and the styling, now looking delightfully retro...

When I was growing up, there were many fewer NHL teams. The Canadians were like the Yankees. Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau were the names I remember most. In my home town, Chicago, we had Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita also with Glenn Hall as goalie. I was shocked to find that Bobby Hull is still alive, and so is Glenn Hall.

    He was fun to watch.
Can you imagine playing without a helmet anymore. I for sure would have Bjore Salming face by now.

it is amazing the equipment and protective gear that has come along since the 'original six' ! Just look at goal tenders today vs 50 years ago and the amount of blockage the modern net minder has today....huge !
