    Unbeatable offer on Revel Salon2ís

I presently own Focal 1038BEís. Thought they might be my last speakers as I am entering my 70ís. I left a note looking for Salon 2ís a couple of years ago. Guy saw it and called his buddy who owned a pair. He called me and offered me the Salons at a price that was hard to pass on. Should I sell my Focals and go for his deal. Heard a lot of good things about these speakers. Thxs Art

I have a Sunfire Grand Cinema Signature amp at over 400 WPC. My biggest concern is sound quality between the two. Always found my Focals to be a bit to bright and forward.

I don't think they sound at all like a Focal speaker. If you can't hear them in person then you will have to depend on other owners and the reviews which are plentiful.

The Salons will sound far more neutral tonally to ears >500hz ish, but that doesn't guarantee you will like them audio-visually playing music in your room. They go deeper and in room bass/modes can have a large impact on perceived sound.
However, if the deal is a good as you imply, you might be able to flip them an minimal loss if you end up not liking. They are pretty big/hefty. Good luck.

The Revels are great speakers in the right room with the right amplification.

    This.

If they are indeed Salon 2ís and not the ugly Salon 1ís, then you will want to upgrade your amps.

Look for a used pair of Bryston 28SSTís.

Re: Unbeatable offer on Revel Salon2ís

I have voiced a number of systems to rooms with both of these models.

Assuming well matched amplification, the Revels have always yielded greater musical engagement, and the Focals were a bit brighter.
DPT4ME - Dynamics, Presence & Tone for Musical Engagement; MBP (3) - stripped down for music only; Shunyata Omega & Sigma USBs; ISO REGEN w/short Curious USB links; Berkeley Alpha USB; Aqua La Scala II Optologic DAC; Schiit Yggdrasil - fully updated; Ayre Codex dac - updated; Pass Labs INT-60 integrated amp; Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE-2 preamp, Quicksilver Mono 120 amps w/Tung-Sol KT150s; Quicksilver Mid Mono amps w/Gold Lion KT77s; Fyne Audio 703s; Symposium Svelte Plus & Ultra Platforms; REL S-812 subwoofers; Duelund DCA12GA speaker cables; AV Room Service EVPs, Stein Music Harmonizers, Duelund DCA16GA & 20GA ICs; Shunyata Denali 6000S/V2; Tripp Lite PCs; Wyred 4 Sound power cords; AudioDharma cable cooker; dedicated custom room; various GIK & ASC room treatments; etc.

Re: Unbeatable offer on Revel Salon2ís

Hi Art, welcome to the forums.

I also prefer the Salon 2 and recommend an upgrade in amp, it's not so much the power as it is current, but both are required. For amp recommendations, any budget and what other gear is in the chain? Notice Mike suggested Bryston and another Pass Labs. Pass will be a more relaxed or polite sound where the Bryston is pretty much neutral. If in the budget a Levinson 534 would be great IMO.
    Aurender ACS10 w/Audioquest Diamond USB,
    Mark Levinson #526, 534 & JBL 4367's
Clear Audio Performance DC w/Maestro cart
Clarus Concerto & their Crimson cables

    HT: Marantz AV8003, Linn 5125, JBL SAM3ha, Revel s30,
    SVS PC13 Ultra
Transparent, Analysis Plus & Tributaries. PS Audio filtering
    Sony XBR-75X940D & BDP
    Parasound P6, MBL 8006b, Artisan speakers/subwoofer

    Hi Art,

Actually Mike at Suncoast has a lot of experience with the Revels. I primarily have used Pass amps, and have found the larger integrated amps to work well.

Frankly, I've not seen nor heard Mike's suggestions to be anything but excellent in this area.

Power cables are Heimdell 2.Any suggestions. Everything I have is for sale f I can make improvements. P.S. I was planning to move up to the LuminT2 as it has Tidal connect. If youíre in Canada, I think itís best to speak with a local dealer.

But for now,!I would find an older VAC integrated like the i160.

Re: Unbeatable offer on Revel Salon2ís

I owned the Revel Salon 2ís with Pass Labís XA-100.5 monoblocks for several years and it was some of the best sound Iíve heard in my listening room. The Salon 2ís are very neutral speakers with one of the flatter response curves measured by JA. They do require significant current delivery for them to reach their full potential and need to be played at medium to high volume levels to produce solid bass response. Overall one of the best speakers values at their price point.
