A pair of Paradigm Athena speakers are being given to me by a nephew who is downsizing prior to retirement. I'll likely try these in one of my home theater systems, in place of some 12 year old SVS tower speakers. Are the Paradigms a good speaker? I've heard them but that has been 10+ years ago. If they don't sound that good I guess I haven't lost anything...they were free.

They have made some great speakers in the past. ... subs?...

I'm not familiar with that series. In general my impression has been they seem to have a prominent top end and midrange. They would probably be good for home theater where a sub would fill in the bottom end. With that being said I helped a friend biamp his Studio 100's and with a 200+ watt amp on the woofers we got the100's to rock pretty good. So it could be that system matching is critical for them.

I am not familiar with this model, but I have heard both Persona 9H and 7F driven by new McIntosh tube electronics and think they are very competitive in their $25 - 40k (per pair) range.

I have owned Paradigm Monitor 7, Prestige 75 and 85 used with Parasound electronics and from a couple of years now i´m ussing Signature S6 with McIntosh tubes pre amp and solid state power for me they are all godd speakers in their price range.

Here in Buenos Aires the Signature cost me 10K dollars... lot of money for our country.

Hope you enjoy them.!!!

Re: Paradigm Athena Audition Series Speakers

Wow, I'm in a bit of shock! These Paradigm Athena Audition Series speakers sound really good, both with music and/or home theater. Much better than expected. They are an air-ey and open sounding speaker, which I like for it's particular planned application. IMHO, they have surprisingly good balance from top to bottom. Although I can see why some identify it as a slightly bright speaker. Slightly. But not overly so.

It's a great speaker for acoustic instruments. I listen to a lot of bluegrass music and these speakers and bluegrass are very symbiotic. They will be my main upstairs, front, 7.1, home theater speakers. Not bad at all...for free. I think they sold in the $1000 to $2000 a piece range.

My high end 2 channel system is completely independent from either of my 2 (upstairs and downstairs) home theater systems. The Paradigms will be a really great addition and an upgrade to the upstairs home theater system. Definitely an upgrade over the 12 y/o SVS towers. Although I've read the newer SVS tower speakers are quite impressive. But I couldn't be happier with my new acquisition.
