    New Speakers Inbound

I love the Trenner & Friedl Art's, which I've owned for a few years. After reading this review on the Sun's I decided to pull the trigger. I found a pair with 10 hours on them in California.

Looking forward to posting a comparison:

T&F makes fantastic speakers. I haven't heard the Duke either. There is a pair of Gordon's for sale right now on AG. If I had the room and the desire for a 175 pound speaker, they would definitely be under consideration. I am probably going to pick up a third pair, the Ellas, which use Accuton drivers. Their cabinets are hand made in Austria and the components they employ are all top notch.

I have heard the RA, ART and ISIS. All excellent, though the larger ones need larger rooms.

Nothing to me like the GREAT HEIL tweeter as seen in my moniker...fully dipole with bandwidth from 450hz to 23Khz. OPEN and AIRY. With the air velocity transformers one has to be careful...speed kills. LoL

Yes I carry T&F. My Viva distributor is the T&F distributor too. We put together a nice package for my client. I'm looking forward to hearing the RA.

    Margot,

What amps are you driving your Sun's with?

    Re: New Speakers Inbound

They are sounding great with an Exposure 3010s2d. I have also heard Brinkmann's integrated is really nice with them (although a lot more money). And Heed seems a popular pairing. What are you thinking of using? Margot

    Re: New Speakers Inbound

Mine just arrived on Thursday. I have only tried an Accuphase power amp thus far. I'm thinking about trying them with some KT150 monoblocks and a Bel Canto SEP 40 which is an 845 SET amp putting out 38 powerful tube watts. Will also try the First Watt J2 and perhaps a pair of Pass Aleph 0 monoblocks. They should all be good choices.

Margot, are you in NJ? The Trenner dealer in California told me a customer in NJ liked the Sun's so much she bought two pairs!

    Re: New Speakers Inbound

Technically in DC, but yes that is me! Guilty as charged. They were for me the perfect solution to trying to get great sound in really small spaces. All your amp possibilities sound great. I will look forward to your report! Margot

    Margot,

Glad you're loving the Sun's. I still need to do a shootout between them and the Art's. The Ella's, which I received a day before the Sun's, sound heavenly. If you're ever in Chicago, drop on by for a demo!

Thanks, RDS! Sounds like you are having a blast. And I will be very interested in the shootout between the Arts and the Suns. I would love to try the Arts one day as well!

I placed the Sun's on top of some Isoacoustics stands which are sitting on speaker stands. Sounds great. Can you post a photo of the Sound Anchors stands with the Sun's in place?

The Sun's are terrific speakers but the Art's handily won the shootout. It's physics, really. They play fuller and lower due to their size advantage. But for their diminutive size, the Sun's really can't be beat and I'd highly recommend them to anyone in a tight space who needs mini-monitors to the extreme!

    Re: New Speakers Inbound

The Art's sound great with tubes or solid state. For tubes I've been using some Quicksilver KT150's putting out around 90 watts of mono tube power, which would basically drive any speaker and makes the Art's really sing. I've also used a Bel Canto SET40 845 tube amp, an Accuphase power amp and anything you throw at them with a bit of power sounds absolutely scrumptious! What are you driving your Sun's with, Mcanaday?

    Re: New Speakers Inbound

Those sound like great combinations, RDS. Right now, I've got the Suns going with an Exposure 3010s2 D amplifier--it's very nice! Next month, I'll try them with Brinkmann Audio's integrated--on the recommendation of Andreas from Trenner and Friedl. I'll let you know how that goes! cheers, Margot
