    Re: Joe's next speakers

+1 for Avalon. I found them to be very musical, and when I went to Sashas at first there was a little of the musicality that I missed, but the Sashas were superior to my "entry" level Ascendents. Mated with ARC Ref3/Ref110, they created an AMAZING 3D sound field. Certainly worthy of audition.

I'll throw the Acoustic Zen Crescendo II into the ring...

Because I know they can be 300-400 lbs each for the ones that I'd consider. I'd like to keep the size reasonable. Something that would not need 4 people to set up or move

Just take it slow and go listen. You have to live with them not us. You have a great pair of speakers coming in soon, so get a feel for what they can do with all of your amps and then decide on a compliment. Should take you until the end of the year at least to find what you are looking for and can live with. Musical enjoyment first, cost and reputation from reviewers second. Also your room will dictate a lot of it. We all have our opinions of what sounds good to us, but only yours counts.

Thanks Jack. You are 100% right. I actually think I am going to LOVE the 40.1's. Hopefully 2-3 more weeks. They will be the anti-TADs . I think they will fill up my room nicely and give me the midrange and top end that I am looking forward to hearing. I am in no rush and now with all the new gear coming out, it will give me more options.

    Joe

I think you will like the Harbeths too. Just for fun you might still want to take a "day trip" to Amherst and visit Bob Neil, if for nothing else but to talk speakers. He went from Spendor to Harbeth and then to Reynaud/Audio Note and then became the Reynaud North American distributor. As Myles can tell you, Bob has a good ear and knows what he likes reputation or cost aside. A day listening to what he has "in-house" might make you see where you want to go next. If you find you "LOVE" the Harbeth sound, then your next step will definitely not be to the Magico, Raidho, Wilson side of the line. It will be something in the middle like the SF's, Vandersteens or back to the Revel's. Whatever it is, enjoy the journey and listen first and spend/buy second.

    Re: Joe's next speakers

Taking a bit different route- based on your room and penchant for low level listening, you need a very efficient speaker with simple crossover. A few I would look at are the Devore O96s, Zu Definitions, Vapor, and the Voxativ of course. Perhaps Evo Acoustic as well.

I find the Tannoys pretty colored in a vintage fashion fwiw.

Nice avatar, but just think how nice they would be if they were in your room and you were listening to them

Yes, Zellatons. JV of The Absolute Sound voted these as the best at Munich this year.

    My Emotions are incredible.

Yes, I saw that. Harley was a big fan as well.

Having just took delivery of some CH gear, I have to think a good portion of the exquisite sound at Audio Arts is contributed by the Zellatons.

ozarktom, did you buy your Emotions from Audio Arts?

Yes...except the Zellatons that JV and RH were cooing about in Munich are the Zellaton Reference loudspeakers which cost $99,750...not sure what the Emotions go for but hopefully not $100K

Joe...those Harbeth 40.1s are looking mighty good to me too

With these prices, me too! Wow! Hopefully another week or two until I get them. I'm so looking forward to hearing them in my room.

I am going to sell one of my tables - probably the AMG

The amg is a great table! If that is going, you must have some pretty spectacular alternates

All models of the Zellaton line uses the same type of handmade drivers, so they all have the same characteristics. Transparency and speed of these speakers are like no other. Even the Harbeth distributor, Fidelis, now sells Zellatons.

I got mine from Audio Arts, but I had to settle with the poor man's version of the Goldmund/Ch Precision amp. The Job 225 is incredible on the Zellaton's.

The Zellaton Emotions would work perfectly in a room that size. My room is 16x22.

    Hi Tom,

Wow!!!! Using the Job on the Emotions, I knew it's a great amp. That's cool. I'll have to check them out. They are certainly on the list now. I haven't even received the 40.1's yet so I have time to look around and make the right choice. Thanks!

Joe, the Zellatons have the speed and transparency of the Tads but have been absolutely fatigue free every time I've heard them. I really think you would like them.

    Re: Joe's next speakers

    Hi Allen,

As revealing and as forward as the TADs were, they were not fatiguing to me. It's just that they let me know all too well if something was not perfectly recorded. I could listen for hours and hours without any problem, but if I cranked it up more than my comfort zone, I felt a little bite. Up until that point, all was wonderful. It's funny, even the horns on my Cornwalls do not seem to be as forward as the TADs on similar songs. If I was a recording engineer, I think the TADs would be a great mix speaker. I just crave a little more sweetness and warmth compared to the TADs. Maybe Strads might be too much of a good thing, I don't know. The Harbeth 40.1's will be a wonderful barometer until I figure out where to go with my choice. I promise to come over and hear your Zellation Reference speakers when they are broken in. Just give me the sign and I'll be there

Joe. Once you get a hook on Harbeth with nice box sounds it will be so hard to go back with fancy speakers.

Fidelis also sells Wilson and Fidelis is getting quite a few of the used Alexia's traded back in on the Zellatons. I would call Fidelis and see what they say. If Fidelis is not far, they would have the Alexias, Zellaton's, and Harbeths all in stock.

The Zellatons are open baffle so they will be more open and image better that any closed box speaker.
