    JBL L100 redux

Apparently this is old news as the revived L100 was announced at the January CES. I found these images from the recent Munich show and they look cool. When I think of playing back Led Zep II at 'eleven' this is what I want to listen to it on, not some puny little audiophile approved speakers, like the ones I presently own the price is right too, around $4k and they're supposedly shipping them to dealers right around now. Anyone heard them? (the 'new' ones not the old ones).

I heard them at CES. They sounded really good. Much better than I remember the old version. Of course I have no clue really with 30+ years in-between listening.

Same hear, short listen at the show. They did sound good, I thought they had that JBL sound but better than I remember some of the vintage models sounding. If I heard an original 100 I don't remember.

$4k opens a lot of options though. Revel F206's are less, maybe a Monitor Audio Gold something, Golden Ear etc. All different presentations, if you like the JBL though, then that's the way to go.

    Re: JBL L100 redux

I wonder how they will compare to say the 4312SE music wise, rock, jazz, blues, orchestra .. The early L-100's did a awesome job with rock and jazz, not so much with orchestra music

    4312SE

    44hz - 40khz
    crossover 640hz-5khz
    90db
    6 ohms
    Magnesium/aluminum tweeter

    L-100 Classic

    40hz-40khz
    crossover 450hz-3.5khz
    90db
    4 ohms
    1" titanium dome tweeter

For what the L100’s are, I’m sure they are wonderful. I’m really enjoying my 4312SE 70th anniversary JBLs. Sure my Studio2 and 4367 are better but I still enjoy what I’m hearing.

That’s a great question. I’ll have to listen more carefully and form an opinion. I really think these JBLs are not fond of really complex music.

Thank you Joe. I personally don't listen to much orchestra music or say classical, but do enjoy soundtracks (Intersellar, Ennio Morricone for a few examples..

Does anyone know if the new JBL L100 Classic speakers come in mirrored pairs? The original L100's did not.

    Re: JBL L100 redux

Joe.......Here are the differences between your JBL 4312SE speakers and the JBL L100 Classic speakers.

The L100 Classic's dimensions are taller, wider, and deeper (25.5" H x 15.5" W x 13.75" D) than the 4312SE (23 1/2" x 14-1/4" x 12"). The cabinet finish of the L100 Classic is walnut veneer with a choice of three color options for the grill, whereas the 4312SE is black with a black cloth grill.

Both the L100 Classic and the 4312SE use JBL's 12" 1200FE woofer, but the midrange drivers and tweeters are different in each model. The L100 Classic uses the JT025Ti1 1-inch Titanium dome tweeter and the JM125PC 5-inch pure-pulp cone cast frame midrange driver. The JBL 4312SE uses the 054ALMg-1 1-inch Magnesium/Aluminum Alloy dome tweeter and the 105H-1 5-inch Polymer-coated Pure Pulp cone cast frame midrange driver. The JBL L100 Classic is a 4 ohm speaker. The JBL 4312SE is a 6 ohm speaker. The 4312SE speakers are made in mirrored pairs. The JBL L100 Classic speakers are not mirrored pairs. The L100 Classic and the 4312SE are two distinctly different speakers.

a.wayne.......I'll bet those eBay L100's sound like crap with their paper tweeters crush in and foam dampers removed from tweeters. I have seen that damage many times on L100's. I wouldn't give that seller $200 for that pair of speakers.

This is what a clean pair of L100's are suppose to look like.

Joe.......Fantastic. The pair of L100's I bought in 1976 had the orange grills. I liked them. I kept the L100's for about 12 years until I bought the JBL 4312A speakers that I still own and use in my vintage system. I gave my L100's to my brother. He passed away nine years ago but his widow still has them.

Looking forward to your impression of the L100 Classic speakers. Don't forget how much we like photos. How long will you have to wait for delivery?

A week from CA plus time to get inline and have them process the order. I'm sure a few weeks could be likely.

This is what a clean pair of L100's are suppose to look like.

    Yep ,

Mine lasted with me for a couple of yrs , had a black foam grille. First driven by a Sansui integrated, then a Kenwood , only because it had power meters

Stands were about $300 retail extra. I didn't order them, besides those stands are too low for me.

there's a new pair with stands at 30% off retail (that didn't take long). either the dealer margins are healthy or its a giveaway price--or both. the seller looks legit w/ lots of feedback: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/...-w-stands-new/
