I've gotten the impression from some of the things OMA has said that the design brief was for a fun, decor-friendly speaker that played bigger than it looked (though it's bigger in IRL than in the pics I've seen...), as suitable for hanging out as for "audiophile" listening. I've had mine exclusively in 14x19 room but will eventually haul them into larger room to hear how they do in space. I've found them listenable with every type of music I've tried. Right now using them to break in an Absolare hybrid stereo amp -- sounding great.

I do think they need an amp/integrated with a slightly open, lit from within kind of sound. Nothing excessive but definitely not closed in or too dark.

My Luxman 595a is simply a superb pairing with them.

Glad you are enjoying them. The do look interesting and would love to hear a pair someday.
However IMO they seem overpriced. A lot of competition at that (and below) price point.
But then again it seems that everything is getting priced crazily in this hobby.

Yes, a lot of competition out there, but when you find something that’s worth it, everything else is a distant second.

So I just don’t understand what the appeal is for this speaker. Obviously it must be something special if Joe purchased a pair, he has had some excellent speakers pass through his listening space.

I don’t understand either but I just love what I hear. Not to forward, easy to drive, big sound. I think the review is spot on. I don’t always listen to audiophile recordings but these make beautiful music.

These look very interesting to me. I would love to hear them. Especially now that I have decided that I no longer like larger speakers. I definitely prefer a smaller stand mount speaker that is much easier to deal with (I am guessing that my age must have something to do with this also ).

The indication you have melded into full audio synergy is when you can sit down and listen to a compete album with no desire to stop and load a wow you in your face bass busting audiophile recording. Joe you have reached audio enlightenment.

Joe, that combo is so about ME.

    (ME = Musical Engagement)

Cannot imagine my all-time fav amp - VIVA Aurora 845 Single Ended Tube Monoblocks - with those speakers. Probably, it's like a shortcut to audio heaven.

I've only experienced them when set-up a bit poorly, but even then, they managed to unlock the music's message, when more expensive speakers could not. A proper set-up - working with the room rather than against it - with those babies would be one of the most emotional listening sessions out there.

    IMO, of course.

Would the DeVille be appropriate for a largish room (20’ x 37’)? I’m thinking I’ll need something big like Cornwall’s, but I am fascinated by these speakers (the DeVilles).

Depends on what you're trying to do with them, I expect -- what kind of music at what dB with what amplification. If you can wait a couple weeks I'm planning to test them out in my 17x37 room while I hang some GIKs on the ceiling in their current 14x19 space. That timing is, unfortunately, up to GIK as much as anything, as they're already a week tardy on their promised ship date.

My room is somewhat this size…but i also open up halfway on one side to another 20x14 or so, and its totally fine. It’s totally doable. It’s a horn, it has throw…

Cornwalls will arguably do the job probably better at filling the room, its got more of everything. 15” woofer, man I’m digging that! But is it too much for the room? Hopefully you can demo both…but I dont see a prob with the devilles filling this space. For what its worth, I have two REL carbon special subs in my listening area.

    Hmm, cornwalls….

An alternative between the Deville and Cornwall would be the Spatial Audio X series. They will definitely fill a large room.

Thanks for the information. I listen to everything but Rap, so pretty eclectic. I don’t usually listen very loud, probably 85db at most, and not very often. I have read that the Cornwalls are great for low level listening, so they may be a better choice in my situation. I just want the speakers to fit the room, and not sound too small and thin.
