Re: The Best Loudspeaker Brands for Both Luxury and Performance: The Definitive List
LoL. Patterns. Full pleasantries and embosoming will be restored once you repent and desist from your commentaries which suggest that dome tweeters are not on par with the best in the industry.
Statements like that incense some Magico owners (LVB, Gene et. al) – all the more so when they are made by a former Magico owner.
Jeff Fritz’s article which has been supported by Mike’s recent comments suggests some folks, largely non-audiophiles, are buying “luxury” audio gear for reasons other than sound quality. For some consumers, the purchase of a luxury brand can go a long way in increasing self-esteem or providing a sense of belonging – so by extension, a perceived threat to the brand elicits the same response as a threat to self.Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers, Borresen Model 01 Compact monitor loudspeakers with Ansuz Darkz T2s Supreme resonance control, Audio Video Manufaktur GmbH (AVM) Inspiration amplifier & streamer, Innuos Zen MKII music server, Ansuz Acoustics cables & accessories. The Best Loudspeaker Brands for Both Luxury and Performance: The Definitive List
Well, my comment should make you happy. It gives you an opportunity to push Borresen a little more, doesn’t it? Or have you lost your brand ambassador agreement in the meantime, Ralph?
And as you say, I’ve had several Magicos, and now like something else better. And the problem with that is...?
There are people who appear to take Jeff’s comments as something absolute. But I find it a bit difficult to build a best of list by excluding key technologies. At least Jeff’s colleague Jonathan Valin used to have Raidho’s and now has MBL’s, which neither have domes.

Re: The Best Loudspeaker Brands for Both Luxury and Performance: The Definitive List
I’m just encouraging you to go easy on the Magico fanboys. #sensitive.
I believe Jeff Fritz has reviewed Raidho’s smallest floor standing loudspeaker model which I understand wowed him with its ability to resolve fine detail. But as the Raidho retails for significantly less than US$100k, it can’t be considered a “luxury product” by Jeff’s determinants.
I do agree with you that building a “best of list” by omitting key technologies is deeply problematic.
You mention Jonathan Valin. A recent JV “reference system” list indicates he currently has 8 pairs of loudspeakers of which I understand only one pair is a traditional dome and cone.Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers, Borresen Model 01 Compact monitor loudspeakers with Ansuz Darkz T2s Supreme resonance control, Audio Video Manufaktur GmbH (AVM) Inspiration amplifier & streamer, Innuos Zen MKII music server, Ansuz Acoustics cables & accessories. The Best Loudspeaker Brands for Both Luxury and Performance: The Definitive List
I still like Magicos, would not have owned three pairs if I didn’t. Now I have something else, don’t really understand the fuss.
A bit difficult to rationalize that binary line of thought some people appear to follow, that there’s only 100% for, or 100% against something, and nothing in between.

Re: The Best Loudspeaker Brands for Both Luxury and Performance: The Definitive List
Exactly.
Perhaps we overlooked the entertainment factor in the article?
It doesn't read like it was meant to be an exhaustive market-reasearch into speakers... subjective would be more like it.
For a subjective example, I would have included Kharma speakers in the list; German Physiks (the driver should qualify, it's not a horn). Probably others as well.Music library: c. 4.5T digital, c.3.5k LPs & CDs
Digital source: Optimised Mini X -- Musichi player external linear PS; DAC: (MSB Select II), Ideon Audio Ayazi II, 2x Ideon 3R Master Time signal reclocking external linear PS; Analogue source: TT: (S-Yorke S7/ S-Yorke S4 - Pluto 6) / Pro ject Xtension 12'΄; Active pre: Borbely Reference; Passive pre: Stevens & Billington; Amp: Symphonic Line Kraft; Speaker sstm: Devore / ProAc / SUBs: SVS Cabling: Bearlabs, Nordost Valhalla, bespoke; Isolation: bespoke rack with hanging shelves, Neuance shelves, Nordost pulsar points, various cones (metal, ceramic, etc);

Exactly why I completely ignore articles like that. They mean nothing and are far, far, far from the truth.
Not to mention, like others have complained about, light gray text on dark gray background sucks for one's eyes.Pass Labs XP-20 | Auralic Altair G1 | Odyssey Audio Stratos Monoblocks | JVC XL-Z411 | Nakamichi DR-1 | Technics SL-1700MK2 | Magnepan 1.7i | SVS PB-1000 Pro x 2
