Proac D25
I picked up a pair of Proac D25 speakers. Have them spikes onto symposium shelf on top of spiral groove strange attractors (tried am every combination). Using rel habitat behind me and dialed really low.
I have retired my KEF LS50 speakers. Night and day difference with dynamics and bass. Chose D25 over D38 and D28 based on fact D25 was magic product before company was taken over and made what I believe was suboptimal driver selection based on ownership and cost.
First time my secondary vacation system is as enjoyable as my reference system.

Re: Proac D25
The ProAc D25 is excellent speakers. I loved mine. Good pick there. However I wouldn't use the grilles though the wood fade away easily. Congrats.

Re: Proac D25
I remember 7 years ago demoing speakers and falling for the D25s hard. I listened to them today and in many ways like them even more than my S5 speakers. Not as resolute but oh so listenable

Re: Proac D25
Good to hear ! D25 are very very musical speakers. I guess its completely different sounds vs your S5.

Re: Proac D25
I wouldn't say different. S5 are "top of mountain" everything is perfectly presented. The D25s are not in that league but are so easy to enjoy - you root for them. Like your favorite pair of headphones you take with you.

Re: Proac D25
I would say the D25s are the perfect "I am not going to obsess perfection but just enjoy the music" speakers. They don't outperform the S5 speakers but they do make me worry less about the system and just listen to the tunes. The Marantz monos and air tight make things organically right. I did a/b with and without preamp and different cabling.

Re: Proac D25
I now have all my marantz amps (and sacd player) fully modified by JENA Labs. The ma9s1 monos (driving proacs) bring out the best in them and the MA9S2 monos driving the Magicos now have a level of ease and clarity and expansiveness that wasn't there before. There are a pair of ma9s2 monos for sale on audiogon. I almost want to get them as backups.

Today I took it to a new level. I used jrmc thru ifi USB power supply with cardas from mac to ifi and audience USB with separate power and signal cables to chord Hugo. Punch, clarity, realism, analog goodiness all there.

Re: Proac D25
As a Proac enthusiast, I've read your thread with great interest. I'm surprised though that you chose the D25 over the D38. In pure sound terms, the D38 is superior to my ears.

Re: Proac D25
Thank you joeinid and Mike for the welcome. This is an excellent forum and I've read a number of really interesting posts. I have listened to a lot of different speakers in the last couple of years as I consider system options and Proac's (with quality valve amplification) remain a favourite.

One of my fav speakers. I have once lusted after the Response 2s (then 2.5s and 3.5s) ... but ended up with Studio 100 eventually.

Re: Proac D25
recently got some proac studio 125 for peanuts !!! they are pretty good vfm I must say . certainly sound good with current amps . bass took a bit of work to control but midrange and top end is very sweet . will certainly make a point to listen to the new dt8 and d20r at any shows I attend .
