Re: Shunyata Research Omega QR unboxing

I haven't heard the Omega QR, but I've listened to the Omega XC as a PC for power distributors, and it's amazing in that application; reminds me of a Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo at the Nurburgring Nordschleif; that puppy can pass some serious current.

I've heard the smaller Omega QR, the QR-s, which is designed for source components, and is based off of the Alpha NR v2. For source components, it's astonishing. The QR/BB device in the QR-s really brings truly impressive immediacy, dynamic slam, 3-dimensionality, and spaciousness to the presentation. It can really transform a DAC or phonostage, etc.

I have a QR here for many months and it is fantastic...I've posted detailed comments on another thread.

Also have broken in and am doing detailed listening comparisons (against Sigma v2 AES and Clock-50) on the
new Omega AES/EBUs (2) and Clock-50s. After about a month breaking in and doing some extremely detailed
listening over many discs and as diligent and a job of A:B as I can I expect to be writing up my impressions of
Sigma V2 and Omega digital very soon.

I have a TYPHON QR and a TRITON V3, don't have any need of an Everest so we get to have other fun :-)

In what dollars? The Omega QR power cord here in USA is $8,000 (USD). Exactly the price of the Everest. However, the matching Omega PC for the Everest is the XC at $7,000 US

Thyname: We were speaking of OMEGA AES/EBU and CLOCK-50 single-cable prices on the US website. They are different from the power cord prices...

Caelin recommended and I've been using the Omega QR-s with my dCS Vivaldi DAC for many months and it's quite impressive. However, upgrading from Sigma V2 AES/EBU to the Omega has been a big revelation. The dCS Vivaldi Upsampler really was being held back. I'd also upgraded my power cable for the Upsampler to the latest Alpha NR and it was quite an improvement. Sometimes it's difficult to guess or even judge how these things will go. No problem hearing the improvement. I did test upgrading the power cable for the dCS Clock with another Alpha NR, but found nothing between it and the Venom V14 Digital I have been using. You never know...

That’s good to know. I’d imagine a clock runs along with no need for instantaneous power to be supplied as it wouldn’t be much good if it wasn’t impervious to the demands of the music. That probably explains why there was no further benefit.

Actually it has to do with a device’s need to be protected from AC line level noise — and the capacity of the power cable to deliver what helps the device perform optimally. Seems that in the case of the Upsampler, though it, like the Clock, operate in only a digital domain, the Upsampler benefits from a higher quality of cable design and construction. Testing a second Alpha NR with the Clock provided no sonic benefit that I could detect.

Well, you unboxed, then let others tongue-wag for a bit… please tell us how the new cable sounds in your system?

That's very mellow sound. But if You'll expect something spectacular You'll be disappointed, because everything is just like in the reality - piccolo flute is tiny, big orchestra is huge and the soundstage depends of recording. So with this cable You'll be able to hear nothing more, and nothing less than "on tape".

Which is exactly what an SOTA system should sound like -- transparent, faithful to the recording.
    Rock on.
