Shunyata Omega Interconnects and Speaker Cables

I just watched the Altair grounding system marketing video. I thought I saw an Omega XLR coming out of the amps in Shunyata’s listening room.

Further, a posting on another forum seemed to spill the beans that these are indeed coming soon.

I wanted to start a thread for these new flagships. I’m sure they won’t be cheap but, offer a great value proposition as do all Shunyata’s products.

Nice. When are you allowed to write about them?

I assume Shunyata doesn't want to take away from the new Grounding products. At least for the next few months.

Like a crystal clear window into the music. We were stunned by the upgrade over the Sigma V2’s. The IC between the dac and pre was jaw dropping difference. I didn’t think they would be THAT much better than Sigma V2.

Thanks. But, what about the speaker cables? :-) I was curious if Caelin and team implemented their QR/BB tech on the Omega speaker cables.

Somehow (if technically possible) to deliver the same benefits as it does to power cables.

For speaker cables, transferring the current from the amplifier to driver using that QR/BB tech.

Looking forward to reading more about these as time goes on.

QR/BB "specificaly improves the performance of the power suplies commonly used in consumer electronic devices. These power suplies specificaly convert AC to DC". It "operates only in a power system where current is drawn in pulses" and it "must be positioned immediately prior to an AC input for the AC-to-DC power supply".

I got that from the patent. So, no, it doesn't appear that that QR/BB can end up in their speaker cable as it solves a particular problem for an AC-to-DC power supply.

    Thanks.

That said, it will interesting to read as what tech the Omega line has over Sigma V2.

As an MIT user myself, I'm curious if Shunyata's tech has been able to make the networked cable (MIT, Transparent) a moot point if you will.

It’s extremely rare to see reviews of cables that include meaningful measurements. These guys seem to have done exactly that:

Alpha Audio NET - Megatest speaker cables – real measurements, samples and blind test!

I think this gives us some insights into how well these competing technologies actually perform. Unfortunately the measurements only just scratch the surface though, so there’s only so much we can glean.

Most impressive to me is the square wave reproduction that Shunyata achieved with Venom X. Most disappointing to me, as one who uses MIT speaker cables, it how poorly that MIT cable did with this. Transparent did a lot better.

I realize that I haven’t actually addressed your point. I guess all I’m suggesting is that maybe Shunyata and others aren’t aiming to make networks moot as they feel there are bigger fish to fry. Regardless Shunyata seems to have hit the ball out of the park with Venom X. We should expect them to hit the ball out of our galaxy with the Omega signal cables.

I’d imagine there’d be more extensive use of their existing technologies like TAP and HARP in the Omega vs the Sigma.

Not only HARP technology, but "quad-HARP" technology....hmm. I know from my Alpha V2s that the HARP technology is amazing, but I can only imagine what "quad-HARP" must be like.

Also, the Omega speaker cables have the TAP (trans-axial polarizer) technology. This is the first implementation of TAP on a speaker cable, AFAIK. Just a single TAP device on an IC is pretty remarkable, so this must be really something on a speaker cable. If I were to hazard a guess, given that TAP is along the "mid-part" of an IC cable, maybe the big dual modules on the middle are the TAP devices? 🤔

Also, just did some screen grabs from the Alpha Audio NET speaker cable review test data. Here's the 20KHz square wave plots...

Ooops. $25K MSRP for 2.5m length Omega speaker. I'm sure they'll be great, but that is a lot of money for wire.

Very expensive, especially when you look how the Venom X graph looks in Puma's post, what is there to be improved. (I know this is just a 20Khz measurement)

I believe the venom x speakercable is non shielded, is that correct ?

Clearly SOTA. Will be compared to Dragon, Odin 2 etc...

In that regard MSRP wise, Omega (Like other Shunyata products) are a "Value" compared to the above

What does the above square wave response mean to the listener?

Is it the rise and fall time of a signal?

Start and stop of the music etc..?

I don't know if it's shielded or not, and most respectfully, I really don't care. 😀 I own a pair of the Venom-X SPs that I use for listening to my GR-Research X-LS Encores (because of Danny's insistence on using tube connectors) that have bananas on the speaker end, and they are...FANTASTIC.

And, I also own and use the higher-level Alpha V2s speaker cables (using 'em right now for the Harbeths). The Venom-Xs SPs are so good I could happily live with them forever. Same for the ICs. In fact, the ICs I'm using from the Lumin P1 to the Constellation Inspiration integrated is a Venom-X XLR, and I am VERY happy with it's performance. Job done.

In my experience, the Venom-X line is a veritable breakthrough for performance/dollar. With respect to the ICs, I can say that based on comparing Alpha V2 and V-x ICs by comparing them directly in controlled conditions on the same content, in the same system configuration, in the same room at the same barometic pressure and temp for the same components. Yes, Alpha V2 is better, there's no getting around the benefits that TAP brings, but...Venom-X is so good, I could live with it "happily ever after."

I'm not chasing "perfection", I'm just looking to have an engaging, natural, and relaxed (as Hans Beekhuyzen says) musical experience. And, Venom-X will definitely get you there...

Re: Shunyata Omega Interconnects and Speaker Cables

Having no shielding is probably responsible for the good measurement, but might have negative influences if there is a lot of EMI/RFI around your system.

I will probably give the Venom X speaker cables a try in my system (or the Driade Flow reference 808) to see how it works out.
Somehow my system is not very sensitive with regards to speakercables, Powercables make a large difference and IC's only subtle differences.

Re: Shunyata Omega Interconnects and Speaker Cables

Spent the past four days auditioning a production version of the Omega XLR cables. Took a bit over a day for these to settle into my system, so as to perform at their best. That's just the nature of cables and seemingly anything we wind up adding into our systems.

Been using the Sigma v2's for a few years now. Unlike the Sigma's the Omega cable's most notable featured enhancement over the Sigma is the replacement of the TAP with the combined Hybrid TAP/C-Mode units. Interestingly C-Mode components are typically featured for digital cabling, whereas on the analog side of the ledger we find TAP featured. Only when you get to Omega level are the combined forces of these two technologies delivered.

As advertised, the difference I hear from the Omega is a lower noise floor (blacker background) as well as less noise/confusion, if you will, in the high frequency arena when compared to the Sigma. Both of these aspects lead to greater subjective clarity, focus, dynamics, and a more relaxed presentation. That, even though we're effectively almost at the end of the signal path.

I cannot speak to the new Omega speaker cables as my Spectral gear dictates use of networked Spectral/MIT cabling for my preamp/amps. But given what has already been discussed, these new cables are likely to deliver the same benefits for those so inclined to enhance the performance of their system. I'm thinking all the Omega products are world beaters.
