Thread: Help with Trition, 2 lines and a ground loop

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been reading and enjoying it for over an year.

I currently own Triton V2 and Sigma HC power cord, which I am quite happy with, but need some advice on how to maximize their use and get rid of a nasty ground loop that I have now.

Here is what I have:

• 2 lines, one with a single socket and one with 3 sockets
• music system consisting of Antipodes server, Lampizator DAC, Coincident Statment Line Stage, Border Patrol S10 ampliifer and Coincident Total Victory V speakers
• video system: TV, av receiver, blu ray player, media player with a hard disk and a subwoofer
• Triton and Furman filter.

I tried to keep all audio related equipment on one line and all video on another line, so audio gear was on the second line with all source components plus line statement connected to Triton and the amplifier PSUs connected to the other 2 sockets directly. All the rest of the gear including router was connected to the other line through Furman. This setup created a nasty ground loop, so I connected Furman to Triton and used the other line just for the wifi router. It worked for a couple of days and the ground loop was gone, but yesterday all of a sudden it came back and I am not sure what to do now.

What are my options now? What would be the best setup to maximize the audio performance? My av receiver is connected to the amplifier using RCA cables and this is the source of the ground loop. Will it help if I connect the av receiver to the Triton directly and keep the rest of video related gear on the other line?

I understand that there may be several option on how to split all the connections between to lines, so any advice would be appreciated.

If you have pinpointed the source of the ground loop to the av receiver to amp connection, the cause may be in the rca interconnects (terminations) themselves. Do you get hum in both channels or just one side?
Ground loops are frustrating to identify the cause! I had a similar hum issue but it turned out to be a loose termination in one rca interconnect and, when repaired, the hum disappeared. The fact that you had none, then it appeared again suggests something was changed, introduced, or the rca IC moved a little and lost the ground contact.

If your av receiver has a two wire power cord, try turning the plug over(ie. reverse the hot/neutral connection).

If it has a three wire power cord, try floating/lifting the ground with a cheater plug.

Thank you all for the responses. It was indeed a loose connector on one of the cords. I switched the cables and now everything is almost dead quiet
I still need your advice on the best way to distribute all the gear between the 2 lines.
I see 3 options here:
1. Keep all the audio related gear to one line using Triton. Here I have an option to plug the amplifier PSUs directly to the wall sockets or through the Triton. The amplifier is an 8 watt per channel SET one. Not sure, if it needs lots of power. It seems, that plugging it directly to the wall produces slightly better results. All video related gear plus the router go to another line through Furman.
2 Try to separate all the power hungry staff from the rest. E.g., amplifier, receiver, subwoofer go to one line either directly or through Furman. The rest of the equipment connects to another line using Triton. In this case, the router will be on the same line as all the analog staff, which is probably not a good idea.
3. Use one line for all the computer related gear (server, router, media player) with Furman and all the rest go t another line using Triton or directly to the sockets.

Any thoughts?
