Experiences with miniDSP DDRC 22A
Hi,
Any one use/used the mentioned before ? (between the pre-power amp).
https://www.minidsp.com/products/dirac-series/ddrc-22a
It a ADC-DSP-DAC device.
Trying to have a feel of any users feel of the device performs in terms of noise, dynamic range, resolution and etc etc .
Thanks.Regards, EH.

Re: Experiences with miniDSP DDRC 22A
Thks - the advantages of treatment done electronically especially on the low freq portion is what I'm eyeing at.
Am afraid of the ADC and later the DAC portion again between the pre & power.
Worry will do more harm than good.Regards, EH.

Re: Experiences with miniDSP DDRC 22A
I've not used one but have been interested in these and other room correction devices. One thing for you to consider though since you have an LS27. Rather than connect it between the pre and power amps, you could instead connect it this way:
LS27 "record out" > ddrc-22a analog inputs
ddrc-22a analog outputs > LS27 "monitor" input
then on the LS27 select the source you want to listen to, and also the "monitor" button so that the ddrc-22a is inline
The benefits of this are:
- The ddrc-22a sees the full line level signal rather than an attenuated signal depending on what volume you have set. This way the ddrc-22a can work on the full signal and will have the full resolution and dynamic range that it is capable of, and minimal noise. For the alternative where you have the ddrc-22a between the pre and the power amp, the ddrc-22a only sees an attenuated level signal so it won't benefit from being able to use its full dynamic range and resolution. It is kind of similar to bit-truncation of a digital volume control but not really the same as that.
- You can easily choose to bypass the ddrc-22a by turning off the monitor function of the LS27 - this lets you quickly compare the sound with and without the ddrc-22a - rather then having to unplug it. It also lets you bypass it in case you don't want the room correction sometimes.
This set up would work with any pre that has a similar tape/processing loop.
I don't know how transparent the ADC-DSP-DAC conversion is in this device, but if it is good, then I expect even with your originally proposed setup with the device after the pre, it would probably still be very good and perhaps indistinguishable from my suggested set up.
