Is anyone here into re-veneering cabinets?
A few years back I found myself actively seeking out speaker projects (used speakers) to re-veneer and sell. Most all of them turned out nicely.
Just wondering if any of you guys have done anything similar with woodworking other than a few of the AS members that are speaker manufacturers?Avanti Audio

Cool Marty, please post some pics of yours too.
Here's a pretty rough AR3a restoration with new Mahogany veneer. Some that care would gasp at not restoring the original veneer and/or not using walnut, but I had sheets of Mahogany on hand so...

JBL L-96 that had good surfaces except for the tops that the previous owner decided to use as plant stands I guess.

Here's a JBL L-100 restoration that required no veneer, just sanding and oil refinishing:

Re: Is anyone here into re-veneering cabinets?
I've only veneered a couple items so far, but have a few more projects lined up.
Here is a turntable that was a NAD 533(Rega) at one point, but then received a 3" baltic birch plinth along with a myriad of upgrades(platter, arm, cart, motor, belt, cables, etc...) and mahogany veneer.
Here is one Tannoy HPD385A cabinet I built and veneered with red oak veneer. I'll attempt to look for more completed images with the crossover control cover, ports, and driver loaded. They have recently been turned into sealed subwoofer cabinets though.
I've also worked with solid wood a few times in the last few years.
These were built with 5/4 Sapele(Italian Mahogany) frames. They are still unsealed at the moment, I will be applying Waterlox to them as soon as my hernia is completely healed.
And here are a small pair of speakers I designed. They have a floating Sapele baffle with a baltic birch enclosure and were a gift to my brother and his wife.

Re: Is anyone here into re-veneering cabinets?
Bringing this thread back to life after so many years dormant. I'm looking for a speaker cabinet builder for an Altec VOTT 817 build. If anyone can remotely point me towards someone who has this kind of expertise, I'll be grateful.

Re: Is anyone here into re-veneering cabinets?
Do you already have the cabinets? If so, have you looked into or considered wrapping? There are tons of color options and finishes available and it would be lots cheaper! You can take your speakers to any place where they do car wrapping and have them do it for you. I wrapped my amps and changed them from silver to matte black.
