If it weren't for the plethora of other drawbacks I would possibly consider it. I strongly believe the best of both worlds can be achieved with rock solid cool running, efficient reliable transistors combined with digital filters.

Listening with our ears and not fussing about measurements is precisely why we choose tubes - as do many guitar players for their amps.

Yes and it's possible to listen to those guitar amps in their full glory through transistors as well. Ask Bruce Brown what he did with his Lampi GG after trying an experiment I suggested? After that ask him what his reference DAC is now

Yes I know. That's why he makes a living with digital

it's also why his reference DAC uses transistors. But don't get me wrong, it's not because he has no tube experience.

Everything I currently own I built myself. Right from the server to the speaker. Cables are all Neotech/Furutech UPOCC with Furutech connectors.

So i guess you dont have an issue with Class-D tonalility ? Devialet seems to be the only one i have heard with good Timbre, then again i have not heard Bruno's latest and greatest and in no way am i locked into any amplifier topology, what works, just works , havent had it happen with Class-D as of yet ...

There's a reason I came up with the concept that Nord uses for their Ncore based amps. Choose whatever flavour floats your boat. And if you're into hearing what the studio intended choose the SIL994.

If you get the base version with the stock Hypex IC opamp based buffer and single supply it's similar. But not if the buffer concept I came up with is used. However I still haven't seen the measurement data or heard the latest revision myself to confirm the results match mine.

Well the problem with the Nords is they would have a MSRP of triple if they were sold through a typical distributor/dealer network. So not really fair.

The problem with the Rowland's is they are just PA grade Pascal class d modules with IC opamp buffers in fancy cases. Awesome alternative to his top stuff here:

The only one I have heard is the Wyred that I am currently breaking in. It is getting better day by day, but so far doing pretty darn good. EJ told me that the amplifiers will take a good 500 hours before it really settles in.

FWIW, I really like the Nord's. Great sound so far and they are far from broken in with only 100+/- hours powered up and 50-some hours with signal thru them.

There is no great electric guitar sound w/o tubes, no need to go for a vintage Gretsch for that. That is because of the cathode follower.

The class D JRDGs can sound good, but only his class ABs do sound great, e.g. 625s.

And Jeff Rowland's latest 625 S2 (Class A/B) sounds absolutely superb! I am also not a fan of any of the numerous Class D designs I've heard but I haven't tried the Nords.

I'm not a dealer anymore. But when I was last month I was all about quality. I was selling an unknown brand. Most dealers wouldn't take a risk like that.

If you get the Nord with the SIL994 or Sparko based input stage they run in pure class A throughout their entire range. The output stages are so transparent that all you hear is the input stage's signature.

Well, I don't know that I'd go that far. I've always been a believer that having some tubes somewhere in the chain can add a bit of flavor. For me, having tubes (all tube or tube hybrid designs) in the line stage and/or phono stage while using SS for power yields the best sound to my ears.
