Anybody know if Ref 6's is hot on the upper case?

Does anybody know if Ref 6's is hot on the upper case? My audio rack has only 8.5" height, I'm afraid it don't have enough space to move out the hot temperature if it is very hot....

There is a 6550 in the power supply that sits at the front of the case right in the middle of the face plate. It puts out lots of heat through the ventilated top cover. The Ref 6 is 7.8" tall and you need a minimum of 6" above it on a shelf to properly ventilate which means you need a minimum of 13.8" of distance between shelves if you aren't sitting the Ref 6 on a top shelf.

MM, Seems that Ref 6 may have a similar layout and tube complement as my former Ref 3... The 6550 tube rectifier in the power supply generates a significant amount of heat... The front paart of the preamp top plate is quite hot to the touch. Without proper ventilation, the device might go through tubes even faster than my estimate.

Conversely, the Rowland Corus that you asked to compare with Ref 6 is only moderately warm, even during summer time.

You'll need quite a bit more clearance. The REF6's height is 7.8 inches. ARC says in the REF6 manual that 6 to 8 inches of clearance is needed above the REF6. That equals 13.8 to 15.8 inches of total clearance. The best thing would be to place it on top of your rack.

    Best,
    Ken
